There are some things that are just inexplicably good at making you feel more positive.
Everyone’s list is probably a bit different, but so many things are universal at making us feel brighter, happier, and simply full of life! Below is a short list of 10 things that make me feel good inside and out…
1. The sea
There’s something about being at the edge of the land and looking out to a seemingly infinite horizon that feels both peaceful and humbling. It gives you perspective, a feeling of connection with nature, and just a sense of awe at the stunning colours and landscape around you – nothing compares!
2. Petting dogs
This may seem random, but studies have shown that petting dogs can be great for your mental health, helping with things like depression and anxiety, and even have been shown to lower blood pressure. There are plenty of things we can learn from dogs!
3. Spending time with friends
Something I’ve definitely learned over the last 12 months has been the importance and value of friendship. My friends are like family to me and spending time with them brings me happiness, even if it’s something simple like going for walks, heading to the beach, watching movies or playing mini golf!
4. Music
Everyone knows how powerful and emotive music can be, but it doesn’t have to be epic or super sad to stir up emotions. Music can make you feel happy and confident, and generally provide an ambience to your life. Music is art after all, and art is definitely something it is good for the soul and feeling connected to humanity!
5. Feeling the breeze on your toes
After a rubbish Winter with feet being stuffed into socks and slippers every day, it’s an amazing feeling to walk around barefoot and in flipflops once again, feeling the breeze between your toes! Whilst we’ve been away in Fuerte, I’ve been wearing Haines flipflops.
Born on the beach, Haines’ flipflops have been designed to be customisable, with different colour soles and removable PVC straps in a range of colours too.
The best thing is they are ridiculously comfortable. I’ve been wearing these all holiday and they haven’t rubbed one bit – I even wore them on a night out dancing ’til the early hours too! The comparison of how soft, yet non-slip, these are in comparison to Alex’s rubber flipflops (a well known brand who will remain nameless!) is crazy – he’s been suffering with blisters this week while I’ve been loving life!
6. Giving without expectations
It’s a well known fact that generosity is good for the soul. I mean just look at the whole Random Acts of Kindness movement! Being kind is one thing, but being kind without expecting anything in return is true generosity.
7. Cuddling
There is nothing more soul-warming than a good hug with a friend, family member or loved one. Being close to people is truly where happiness comes from, I believe, and a good squeeze is a great way to do this and show someone you care and genuinely want to be close to them.

8. Ticking off your To Do list
This may just be me to be fair, but I just find it super satisfying and pleasing to tick things off my To Do list and feel productive. It makes me feel lighter and happier in the day knowing that I’ve done the things I needed to do, so I can get on with the things I want to do and enjoy myself.
9. Laughing
Laughter is definitely the best medicine; it not only makes you feel good but it brings joy to everyone around you as well. There’s nothing more infectious than a good laugh!
10. Feeling Grateful
Practicing gratitude is a massively important thing, I believe. This along with mindfulness has been brought to popularity of recent years and I think it’s great – thinking about things you are grateful for each way is guaranteed to make you feel more positive.
