Riviera West Country Hampers Review: A Cornwall Foodie’s Dream Gift

Hampers are one of my favourite types of gifts to give at Christmas.

They’re PERFECT for those friends and family members in your life who literally have everything and need nothing. For these types of people, choosing a gift that is edible and/or drinkable is the way forward for sure! And who doesn’t love beautifully presented box of food, am I right?

I won’t lie – as a blogger, every year I get inundated with review requests from different hamper companies around Christmas time. It’s a big business at this time of year! And hampers come in many different shapes, sizes and niches, so it seems the variety is endless. Over the past few years I’ve tried quite a few, but this year (with all product reviews in general!) I’ve had to be a little more selective on what I accept for blog write-ups.

However, when Riviera West Country Hampers contacted me and showed me their range of Cornish food and drink hampers, I knew this would be a great fit! All the products in their hampers are from businesses here in Cornwall, all carefully chosen, and each hamper is named after a special Cornish location too.

I chose their Mylor Hamper to review, mainly because of all the delicious items inside, but also because I love Mylor and live just a few minutes from the little harbour town now! I’ve written before about the beautiful coast walks to be had there, where you can walk along into Restronguet creek and visit the wonderful, historic Pandora Inn for lunch on the water.

The hamper costs £75 (including shipping) and contains a box of Cornish Tea Company tea, a bottle of Tarquins blackberry gin, a jar of JB Preserves plum jam, a bottle of Cornish Ketchup ‘Smokey One’, a bottle of elderflower presse, a bottle of Cornish Orchards Cyder, a bar of Kernow chocolate, a box of Furniss Fairing biscuits, a box of Furniss cheese biscuits, a jar of Cornish honey, a jar of 3 fruit marmalade, and a jar of JB Preserves piccalilli. Phew!

I’m most excited about the Tarquins blackberry gin and the Cornish Ketchup (you can never have enough ketchup in life), but I’m even more excited to give it as a gift for Christmas this year. The nice thing is, all of these items are able to be stored for a good number of weeks so you don’t have to worry about any food going off between now and Christmas day.

With regards to the packaging, the cellophane wrap makes it super easy to transport and definitely gives it a polished look. However, if you are concerned about the use plastic, I’d highly suggest keeping the cellophane (or encouraging your gift recipient to keep it) for use in your own DIY gift hamper next year. This is what I plan to do!
