The Best Burgers in Cornwall (A Local’s Guide)
If you’re looking for the best place to grab a juicy burger in Cornwall, here’s my shortlist of tried and tested spots! 🍔
From St. Ives to Bude, we’re lucky to have plenty of choice if you’re fancying a delicious burger & fries combo here in Cornwall, which is lucky because (when done right), it’s definitely one of my favourite meals.
Below are some of my personal favourite spots and recommendations to get your tastebuds going…
1. BooKoos (Helston and Falmouth)
Kicking off with my ultimate favourite burger restaurant, I’m SO grateful that BooKoos opened a second location in Falmouth a few years ago, so that I’m eeeeven closer to the best burgers ever 🤪
This American-inspired diner has a great vibe; with cowboy hats & boots hanging from the ceiling, to the huge retro menu complete with shakes and American soda imports, it offers basically every combo of burger filling and toppings you could ever dream of. The portions are HUGE (trust me, you probably won’t be able to eat the ‘Grande’ size on your own!) and the loaded fries are also DELISH.
I love the casual, family-friendly vibe here and the burgers truly are the best (I’ve tried beef AND chicken and can attest to both), but one of my fave things is the VALUE. This ain’t your overpriced hipster burger joint – the prices are super reasonable.
It’s also a firm fave from all my friends too! Niki from @nikimaac (one half of Cornwall’s Best Burger) says: “My favourite all-rounder has to be BooKoos, the menu is huge and reasonably priced, I’ve never been disappointed and it always satisfies my burger cravings! My go-to is the Peppercorn Bacon, but I also love their Cajun fried chicken burgers too!”
2. Native Burger (Launceston & Bodmin)
We recently visited Native Burger’s newly opened, second restaurant in Bodmin – launched by Philip Warren Butchers and Luke Taylor after the success of their Launceston site. And DAMN this was so good – Alex’s ‘Twisted Fire Starter’ spicy burger was sooo good, and we both said the chicken tenders were the best we’ve ever had. I had melty cheese fries and a BBQ chicken burger which was perfectly crispy yet juicy, and overall we LOVED it here.
(It’s also dog friendly too which is a huge plus! We stopped off here after walking the dogs at Cardinham Woods for a nice full day out).
3. HERD Burger (Newquay & Truro)
Next on my Cornish burger recommendations list is HERD. They’ve built a huge reputation in a short amount of time since opening in 2023, and their smash burgers are SUPER juicy.
It’s a very cool, relaxed diner vibe in here and you can grab a takeaway too. One of my personal top reasons why I love it here is their fries (SUPER crispy) and peppercorn mayo! Do not give that a miss whatever you do.
Niki & James (Cornwall’s Best Burger) also heartily agree on HERD being in the top list of Cornish burger spots, saying: “HERD is simple but effective; they get all of the basics spot on which makes them so good!”.
After opening their first diner in Newquay, they now have a second restaurant in Truro too.
4. Firehouse Bar & Grill (St. Ives)
In the picturesque town of St. Ives, Firehouse Bar & Grill serves up more than just stunning sea views, with delicious flame grilled steaks, gin cocktails, and of course – burgers!
Choose from a 100% local steak patty beef burger, buttermilk fried chicken burger or a ‘grilled reuben’ which offers something different, with slow cooked beef brisket and sauerkraut. If you love a chicken burger, I can definitely recommend one of these!
Firehouse offers a relaxed, beachy vibe and a lovely spot to relax after a day exploring the harbour streets and pristine beaches of St Ives.
5. HarbourQ (Charlestown, St. Austell)
Charlestown is well known for its historic 18th century harbour (featured in Poldark), but it’s also home to HarbourQ and The Longstore Charlestown (sister restaurants and two of my faves!). However, HarbourQ is BBQ meets burger heaven in a seaside shack!
This harbour side pop-up restaurant is a meat lover’s dream, with burgers that are smoked to perfection. The “BBQ Pulled Pork Burger” is a standout, featuring tender pulled pork, tangy coleslaw, and signature smokey flavours.
HarbourQ offers a chilled outdoor dining setting, and it’s a must visit when visiting Charlestown Harbour. It’s impossible to resist the smell of their meaty feasts and if you love loaded fries, they (definitely!) offer the dirtiest fries in Cornwall!
6. Meat Counter (Falmouth)
This little burger bar in the heart of the seaside town of Falmouth is family-run and offers a delicious menu of proper homemade burgers; from the MC Elvis, to Betty Blue or the Notorious B.I.G, the beef patties are super juicy.
However my personal fave from Meat Counter are the chicken burgers (definitely give the Bad Muthaclucker a go, with buttermilk fried chicken, Korean BBQ sauce, slaw and sriracha mayo).

7. BONUS Best Vegan Burger in Cornwall – Elements (Bude)
I had Bex (who lives in North Cornwall) give me her thoughts on the her favourite spot for a vegan burger and she said: “What really stood out at Elements though is the vegan burger, which was really generous in size and served with a divine, unique chutney/ relish house sauce and views over the beach to die for! The espresso martini from the cocktail bar was also easily one of the best I’ve had in Cornwall. If you are looking for a great vegetarian burger restaurant in Cornwall with an incredible location, this is your spot to try. It’s a really scenic date spot!”
