Is it kind of weird to share what my bedroom looks like on the internet?
I don’t know to be honest, but when in doubt, do it anyway! That’s the saying, right?
To be fair, we (I say we… okay I mean N and our builder) worked hard to create a modern, cosy space that’s just right for us, and it’s fun to share before and after photos of transformations – even ones as simple as this!
^ This is what the bedroom looked like before … kind of… I didn’t take any before photos of the room with our stuff in, so this is actually an estate agent photo from before we bought the house! It’s a pretty rubbish picture too… sorry for being a useless home transformation blogger!
Ta da! ^ This is the after photo, in case you didn’t realise (rude).
We swapped out the ratty old carpet for laminate flooring and added curtains, among other things.
The main difference which you probably can’t tell is different from the photos is that the back wall that the headboard is against has actually been built out with insulation and plaster board. This is because (being in an old 1800s house) the walls are purely concrete, and that paired with no insulation at all and a wet Cornish climate means that the back wall was getting hideously damp – like small eco-system damp. Ugh.
So now there is a new wall (yay!) and we also wired in some bedside lights at the same time to go above our floating shelves/bedside tables.
As you can probably tell, we have a fairly minimal taste in home decor and design. I love having nothing on any surfaces except a few boxes, a mirror and a beautifully simple lamp like this one from Lampcommerce*.
Their Fabbian lighting collection fits in so well with our minimal, white and natural style, and it adds an extra design feature to the room too.
I’m obsessed with this piece of art we recently got to hang above the bed – it’s by an artist called Quibe on Society6. If you love clever, simple design and calligraphy you’ll love their creations!
* This post mentions an item that I have been sent to review, but please know that I wouldn’t mention it here if I didn’t love it anyway!
Wow the transformation makes the room look SO much bigger! I love the minimalism in your room, it’s so neat and tidy. Question is – can you really keep all yours and Nath’s clothes in just those drawers? Alice xx

Thank you lovely <3
And why does everyone ask me that xD We have a small cupboard in the corridor with a rail for smart clothes and a couple of dresses but I promise that's it haha, I always think I have lots of clothes but apparently I don't – these drawers also house shoes, makeup and hair stuff too! xx
Woa seriously?! For both of you?! You definitely don’t have that many clothes! I need a serious clear out, I’m rubbish at getting rid of things I don’t wear anymore! I have a huge cupboard, a rail, a chest of drawers and a dressing table, and that’s just for me!! xxx
it’s nice:)
Bedroom transformation is so lovely… Thanks for sharing this post.
