Has anyone else been seriously missing eating out during lockdown?
Food is life, and one of the biggest things I miss right now is dining out at our favourite restaurants and enjoying an evening with delicious food and drink. I’m sure I’m not alone!
Thankfully, restaurants around Cornwall have been finding innovative ways to serve their loving customers, with plenty of takeaways popping up all over the county.
A couple of weeks ago, Alex’s parents suggested we should all head over to Rock (near Padstow) to meet up over a takeaway of BBQ burgers at Paul Ainsworth’s ‘The Mariners’ gastro-pub.
Each Friday and Saturday, Paul and his team have been setting up an outdoors BBQ feast, either at their Caffe Rojano in Padstow, or at The Mariners.
Choose from fairground style burgers, hot dogs, and amazing fried chicken, and order in advance so you can pick up and enjoy on the causeway.
I went for the veggie ‘Big Dipper’ burger with fried onions and ‘big mac’ sauce, and shared a box of ‘dirty fries’ with Alex’s sister too, and oh man – it was incredible! After months of missing burgers, this hit the spot like nothing else.
And you just can’t beat that view either!
Alex and his family also had the ‘Mighty Fairground’ burgers and fried chicken (I had some and it was also amazing – even better than KFC in my opinion!), and we all agreed it was much needed. I think it’s easy to end up cooking all similar / samey meals when you’re making dinner all the time at home, so it was great to have something a bit different that we wouldn’t make ourselves at home.
I had been to Rock once before when we stayed over for the Padstow Christmas Festival and got the ferry over the estuary (such a fun night!) but I hadn’t had the chance to explore this little village before, so it was great to finally have a walk around.
You can find out about upcoming BBQ nights on The Mariners’ Facebook Page – it looks like they have one coming up this weekend (the 19th & 20th June), so book in quick if you’re interested! Honestly I would highly recommend.
Thanks so much to Alex’s family for treating us and coming up with the idea 💙 You can also learn more about The Mariners and their normal menu on the Paul Ainsworth website.
The blog was so impressive and informative to me. I would like to thank the writer for this amazing effort for the audience.
