Overlooking the beautiful Camel Estuary, St Enodoc Hotel’s terrace is definitely where you want to be on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
This family-run boutique hotel is located on the hillside in the exclusive coastal village of Rock, with 21 rooms and two restaurants – a relaxed ‘Brasserie’ and intimate, fine-dining restaurant, ‘Karrek’, overseen by Head Chef Guy Owen. We’ve been wanting to his food for a while as he’s well known around Cornwall for his delicious dishes!
Throughout summer the hotel is hosting ‘BBQ Saturdays’ on their outdoor terrace, open to guests and the public between 12pm and 2.30pm until the end of September, and they kindly asked us along to give it a try.
Rock and the Camel Estuary are such beautiful areas that we haven’t had much of a chance to explore (our usual stomps are more around south Cornwall), so we made a day of it and went for a beach/coast walk before lunch, bringing the dogs along with us.
The dogs LOVED the sandy Rock beach at low tide, as the sand seemingly stretches for miles, with dunes to explore, and a coast path that leads along to Daymer Bay and Polzeath. It’s a great walk to do with dogs as there aren’t really any steep cliffs so they can run around safely off the lead for most of it!
After our walk, we headed to St Enodoc Hotel and got ourselves seated on their sun-drenched terrace. This spot feels lovely and sheltered from the breeze, and it was amazing to sit out in the warm sun overlooking the estuary across the hotel’s gardens.
The hotel is dog friendly – which we love! – and made sure the dogs were nicely hydrated with a dog bowl at our table too, and they enjoyed sunbathing while we ate.
The BBQ menu offers you a choice of 2 starters/snacks per person from a list of delicious options, then a choice of 2 BBQ mains per person that come with lots of tasty salad, and then a dessert as well.
For our starters we decided to share 4 between us and chose the warm loaf with oils, buffalo cauliflower, Porthilly oysters (fresh from 5 minutes down the road!), and truffle arancini. This was definitely the fanciest BBQ food I’ve ever had! I loved the mix of the laid back atmosphere with the high quality, beautifully presented dishes.
The buffalo cauliflower & arancini were the best I’ve ever had for sure!
Next up, we chose our BBQ mains, both opting for the beef rib, and Alex went for Korean chicken skewers while I chose scallops. These were incredible! It was all served with a scrumptious salad side as well.
Once we’d finished all this, we were pretty full, so instead of having a full ice cream sundae (the usual dessert on the menu), we opted for a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream each. I loved the custom wafer detail that these came with – so cute!
The BBQ menu is available every Saturday lunch time through summer and costs £45 per person. Head over to the St Enodoc Hotel website for more details!
