After a week of working late, I decided to head to cliffs this Friday evening.
I often drive down to this bit of coastline near Portreath beach when I need some fresh air; for starters, it’s the closest to my house, but it’s also just stunning.
Until the other day I actually had no idea what this little area was called! The whole section between Portreath and Godrevy is generally called ‘North Cliffs’, but along the way it has a whole host of little coves and inlets with different unique names.
But I saw Jack and Hannah post about it on Instagram the other evening and asked where they took the beautiful pics, and they said Basset’s Cove. At first I had no idea what that was, but after Jack explained, I realised I’ve visited it many times before! But now I know what it’s called :) Thanks Jack!
The car park is down a gravel lane opposite the North entrance of Tehidy Woods, and is one of the biggest parking areas along the North Cliffs drive. I often see people camping out in their vans here as it’s secluded away from the road … it certainly does look like the most perfect place to wake up in the morning!
So Basset’s Cove (I believe) is actually the little sliver of beach at the foot of the cliffs below the parking area, and is a bit of a hotspot for surfing apparently! I’ve never been down there myself as I’m usually on my own when I visit and I don’t fancy getting stuck or twisting my ankle with no one to help out, but it looks totally beautiful down there! There are also loads of smaller coves you can climb down to from the coast path to the East of the car park, but I believe they’re all called the same thing (don’t quote me though).
But if you’re not one for clambering, the walk around the cove is enough in itself. The rock stacks and cliff formations are magical here – they remind me of something jurassic… or maybe just Jurassic Park.
It seems that Spring is in fact the best time to visit the cliffs – they’re bursting with colour with so many different flowers; clover, gorse…and other flowers that I wish I knew the name of in all different shades of purple. It really does make for some colourful photos.
Anyways sorry for the enormous amount of photos but I just couldn’t choose a favourite so WHY NOT post all of them!
Where’s your favourite place on a Friday evening?
