As a send off to one of our friends who is off travelling, we organised a group meal at Bustopher’s in Truro last week.
The last time I’d been to Bustopher Jones was probably about this same time last year with Alex, on one of our first dates together before going to the cinema! It’s on the high-end of Truro’s eateries, but still good for a gathering and they also offer a great pre-show menu if you’re off to see a movie or a play at Hall for Cornwall.
They also do fantastic cocktails! However on this evening we opted for a bottle of wine with our meals, and sat around enjoying our ‘amuse bouche’ ham hocks and beetroot sweet potato (my veggie option).
Our group of 6 were all pretty hungry, and everyone (except me) went for a steak, as they are well known for a good quality steak throughout Truro. The main courses at Bustopher’s range around the £17-18.50 mark, and the steaks are between £25-29, so as I say, it’s the pricier end of what Truro has to offer, but it is great quality food.
However, I stumbled upon the fact that they have an entirely separate vegan menu on offer! Bustopher Jones is known for having quite a ‘select’ menu, with 3/4 starter options, 3/4 main course options, and a couple of dessert options, but they have the same again in a menu that is solely dedicated to vegans – how great is that?
I was so impressed, AND the main courses were much less expensive (roughly £12-14 each) too, so it was a win-win for me. I chose the artichoke and wild mushroom risotto and it was delicious; one of the best risottos I’ve had for a while.
It was very filling, and since we were sharing plenty of wine throughout the night too, I found myself too stuffed to order a dessert. However, I’d love to go back and try out their vegan desserts (including vegan Eton mess and apple crumble!).
Alex and his friend decided to share a dessert, as I discovered you can get a free dessert at Bustopher’s by signing up to their mailing list on their website. I’d definitely recommend doing this, as their orange cheesecake brownie was delicious (yes, I had to have a bite)!
We had a lovely evening, and it was a great surprise to see their full vegan menu on offer too. I’m not sure they advertise this option – I couldn’t see it on their website, but I’m not sure why – it’s fantastic! However, it may be best to mention about any dietary requirements or preferences when booking.
