Creatives, coffee, cocktails and cake… could there be a more perfect way to launch a networking event?
My lovely friend Frankie (Frankie Thomas Marketing) has set up a meet-up/networking/social group here in Cornwall called ‘Inner Social’, and recently organised the first ever event for it at Lawrance’s Bakery & Bar in Truro. I’d heard great things about this cute new hot spot, and was very excited to see what it’s all about, while also getting the chance to meet some new freelance women and creatives too.
Tucked away on New Bridge Street in Truro, Lawrance’s is the dream-come-true for couple Phil & Lucy, who launched the unique bakery & bar in 2019. It’s combined Lucy’s love and talent for baking (seriously – her cakes and creations are insanely good!) with fun quirky cocktail concoctions.
The decor is pretty amazing too! Pink and green is one of my favourite colour combinations, making it feel girly but modern, and my GOD is it the ideal Instagram space 😉.
The cake options are fantastic – there’s something for everyone; from raspberry donuts, to chocolate brownies, flapjacks and lemon & blueberry drizzle (my choice). Lucy bakes everything in-house herself and is clearly extremely talented. There are gluten free and vegan options too, and she also bakes for events too if you wanted her to make you a special birthday treat!
We all arrived at Lawrance’s for the Inner Social meet up, which included a piece of cake and a cocktail in our ticket price. It was extremely hard to choose, but made for a great talking point meeting new faces with everyone ‘ooh’-ing and ‘ah’-ing at the amazing goods in front of us.
There were around 12 of us in total, plus two extra guests – a brown terrier and beautiful blonde dachshund! They were very well behaved and it was great to see that Lawrance’s is dog friendly too.
Check out this cocktail menu… you can see why it was hard to choose! Lawrance’s serve a variety of classic cocktails (like mojitos and porn star martinis) plus their unique ‘Cake Cocktails’, which include options like ‘Lemon Drizzle’, ‘Caramel Cheesecake’ (with vanilla vodka, baileys, double cream and caramel), ‘Cherry Bakewell’ or ‘Raspberrry Ripple.
They also offer mocktails too, but I went for the ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ cocktail, with rhubarb gin, rhubarb cordial, vodka, advocat and lemonade. YUM! I can tell you I was extremely happy with my choice – it even looked like a rhubarb & custard sweet too.

My lemon & blueberry drizzle cake was also completely delicious, and I love the attention to detail with everything being served with pink napkins and beautiful gold cutlery.
It was so nice to have all this as a talking point when meeting people; it was a really relaxed meet up with some lovely women (a few I’ve met before and a few new faces too!), and we all had plenty to talk about and lots in common.
Lawrance’s was a great choice of venue and I’ll definitely be coming back – it’s the perfect spot for an evening drink after work, or a cheeky cake and coffee or smoothie in the day.
