I’m always driving past Argal lake to get to Helford river, but I’d never actually walked around it!
Olivia and I decided we had better meet up for a proper catch up before she headed off to Switzerland for Christmas, and I suggested we try the circular Argal lake walk (just outside Penryn/Falmouth).
I always have an eye out for good places to walk the dog, and this seemed like a good choice! Olivia knew it well, so I didn’t have to worry about getting lost or parking in strange places… always a bonus.
Talking all things camera and comparing our Olympus babies, we walked across the dam with views of the waterfalls below. The weather forecast had lied to us and said it would be sunny, but alas, there we were in raincoats – trudging through the mud in our wellies.
Can we all show some appreciation for the amazing French Bulldog hat that Olivia has given me for Christmas please? I’ve been moaning for ages about not having a hat with a pom-pom and she has 110% delivered with a Frenchie themed one to boot!
It looks cold in these photos, but (and I suppose this could have been due to the whole hat & scarf ensemble) it was and has been extremely mild here in Cornwall over the past few weeks. It honestly doesn’t feel like Winter, and as such, not really like Christmas either.
I was totally feeling it in the last week of November and first few days of December, and now as I write this… that festive feeling has kinda disappeared for me.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve had a couple of super busy weeks and weekends without much time to chill and do Christmassy stuff, or because there’s not much for us to prepare for this year as we’re not actually hosting Christmas lunch as we have done the past 2 times.
Hopefully by the time this is published I’ll have ‘Christmas-ed up’ a bit, as I’ll have had a festive lunch surrounded by friends and a few slower days as I wrap some projects up for the holidays.
On an unrelated note, can we clear up the debate once and for all:
Which do you prefer, landscape or portrait photos?
Recently, I have been finding myself taking more portrait oriented photos rather than landscape; I just find them really pleasing to the eye at the moment, and Olivia agrees! I feel like maybe I’m being subliminally conditioned by Pinterest and Tumblr, whose majority of images are portrait these days…
Anyway – just a random thought to leave you with there!
I’ll definitely be back to Argal sometime soon, with dog in tow – probably when it’s a little less muddy. The beautifully atmospheric circular walk around the whole lake took roughly an hour, with some dawdling to bird watch and take photos (obviously), so perfect for tiring the pooch.

How are you spending the week before Christmas?

I love your hat, Anna, much appreciation for it from my end! :) Beautiful photos, too! Personally I’m always drawn to landscape photos (i’m not sure why… and it’s a pesky problem for Pinterest seeing as everything is portrait!). But I did enjoy ALL your photos in this post, so great job! ;) I’m not feeling all that Christmassy either… the mild weather and the crazy workload is probably accounting for that?! But i’m hoping some christmas films and a spot of Christmas baking will fix that in short order and have me excited for Christmas at the weekend!
Lots of love to you & yours, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much for the kind words Flora! :) And for the hat love haha.
I think it’s the same for me – too much work and super mild weathe; I’m still not totally feeling it! Never mind, I’m really excited for 2017 so all is not lost :)
Have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year! Lots of love! Xx
Now there’s a problem, I don’t really know which I prefer. I like the layout of a portrait photo but I find on a blog it requires more scrolling so you don’t necessarily get the full benefit of it on an iPad or phone screen. A mix is nice though I guess, especially if they’re the same width :) Alice xx

Yeah I think I’m with you – overall a mix is good! But something about portrait just makes me extra happy haha xx
