There’s not been a Pepper post here in a while, so I thought it would be cute to show you her daily routine!
I had the idea to write this post and video ages ago, after watching Carly Rowena’s video about her Frenchie, Steven’s, ‘day in the life’. I thought it was cute and kinda hilarious so I wanted to create my own for Pepper.
Morning
Pepper has always been great at sleeping; we rarely lie in past 8am anymore, even on weekends, but if we did Pepper would happily stay asleep in her crate ’til 9:30/10am without making a peep! It’s great not having a dog whining to be let out early in the mornings when you’re super tired.
Once we go downstairs, Pepper is out of the crate and straight out into the garden to go to the toilet, while I get her breakfast ready. She is loving this kibble from Scrumbles* right now! It’s an all-natural, healthy dog food that’s gluten free, containing digestible sources of fibre, such as brown rice and oats, rather than things like peas and potatoes. Their recipes also include omega 3 and 6 for glossy coats, and are naturally hypoallergenic too.
Pepper has been wolfing this stuff down recently (apparently it tastes pretty good!), which is just as well she has a ‘slow feeder’ bowl to stop her pretty much inhaling it. If you have problems with your pups eating too quickly and getting sick, definitely try one of these! This one is under £10 from Amazon*.
I’ve definitely noticed a change in her energy since she’s been eating Scrumbles – she’s been pretty sluggish the last couple of months, which I’d put down to the weather, but since changing her food it’s great to see her come back to life and feeling more playful!
Once she’s eaten, she will follow us upstairs while we get ready for the day, and once Alex has gone to work, she’ll join me on the sofa while I sit at my laptop.
Afternoon/Evening
It’s great that Pepper is still quite lazy in the mornings, because it’s my most productive work time so it’s better for me not to take her for a walk then. I’ll eat my lunch around midday and throw a ball a few times for her in the garden, but she doesn’t actually start getting needy for a walk until around 4pm.
I can tell when she gets bored because she starts following me everywhere – including the bathroom – and sits and stares at me to stop working and take her somewhere fun!
(By the way, I got her collar from Ibiza, but below are some similar ones…)
We prefer to take her to the beach when we can – she absolutely LOVES the sea, and it’s great for keeping her cool in summer, but sadly most of the beaches have dog bans until 7pm. So sometimes we have to get creative with where to take her that’s cool but also has space for her to run around off the lead.
Once we get back from our walk, I’ll get her dinner (she has two meals a day) and past 6pm, Pepper basically conks out for the whole evening. She might entertain herself with a bone chew for half an hour but other than that she just sleeps! She’s pretty obsessed with my circle chair, but lately she’s been enjoying curling up in a dog bed too. Sometimes she can be persuaded to cuddle with us on the sofa, but I think she only tolerates that in exchange for a warm leg or two…
I hope you enjoy this short video of her routine too!
