Down By The Lake

We’ve been totally spoilt with sunny weekends in Cornwall of late.

In fact, I’ve been doing an outdoors bootcamp for four Sundays in a row and every single week it’s been beautiful warm sunshine-y weather for us – super lucky! This particular Sunday our session was down at Argal reservoir just outside Penryn, and boy what a stunning setting that was.

We started out with stunning early morning views of the lake to enjoy during our (painful & exhausting!) workout course, and finished with a coffee at the new Good Vibes pop up cafe looking out at the scenery.

I’ve only ever been to Argal once before in Winter with Olivia, and if you look back at those photos compared to these you’ll see how different it looks – instead of moody and atmospheric it reminded me of those lakes in American teen movies where everyone spends ‘Spring Break’ diving into the water from tire swings… a weird reference point but hey.

N has never been, so after my post-workout coffee I rushed home for a shower and made him return to the lake with me, this time with a lunchtime picnic.

We admired the views and after our lunch went for a quick stroll around the North side of the lake, admiring the birds and wildlife as we went. Overall the circular trail around the lake is around 2km and takes around an hour to complete (if you’re not stopping too much to take photos along the way!).

The reservoir is protected by the South West Lakes Trust, so no watersports or swimming allowed, but it is a great spot for fishing, bird watching and exploring the nature trail to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, and the picturesque Mabe church.

And yes, dogs are allowed (it’s a great dog walk when it’s not muddy) but they should stay on a lead when walking around the lake due to the wildlife and some of the algae in the water can be toxic to dogs as well. There is a large grassy exercise area by the car park though so your pup can still have a good run around too :)
