If you’re wondering where to go for your a Christmas lunch, dinner or party this month, Star and Garter in Falmouth has you covered!
Last week we were invited to join them on a Friday evening to sample their new Christmas menu, available throughout December for lunch or dinner, and it did not disappoint!
We arrived at 7pm as a group and were greeted with a choice of festive cocktails to choose from. I went for an ‘Old Fashioned’ with fig liqueur and rosemary, and we all sat chatting in the cosy mood-lit atmosphere, surrounded by decorations getting us into the festive spirit.
You must excuse the quality of these photos for that reason! Star and Garter have worked hard to create the perfect cosy atmosphere inside for festive evening dinners, but mood lighting doesn’t bode too well for good photographs. However, hopefully you can see from these how tasty the food looked 😍
For starters, the Christmas menu offers a Salmon Pastrami serviced with buttermilk, rye bread & pickle (this was my choice), Smoked Ham with cranberry, leak & pistachio, and Cornish farm mushrooms, ricotta and chestnut. These all sound so tasty but I think Niki’s (the mushroom dish) was my favourite in the end!
Of course on the main courses options, there is a classic Smoke Roast Turkey served with roast potatoes, carrot & parsnip, cabbage, cranberry, bread sauce & cauliflower cheese – or you can opt for the fish dish which comes with mash, pickled walnut and bordelaise sauce. I, however, chose their vegetarian option of Pumpkin Rosti, apple, roasted shallots and hazelnuts, and I’m very glad I did. Everyone said their dishes were amazing, but I loved mine the best; I love a good, flavoursome, hearty veggie dish!
The out came the desserts! As you can imagine, by this point (plus a couple of glasses of wine later), we were all getting pretty stuffed! But we couldn’t resist indulging ourselves with options like Gypsy Tart with bitter chocolate and marmalade, Arctic roll with fig leaf, chestnut and lime, and a Saffron french toast with earl grey and clotted cream. I had the latter choice and it was heavenly!
Food aside, we had a fantastic evening catching up with friends and being in a group of us made it fun to mingle and get ourselves in the Christmas party spirit.
Star and Garter’s Christmas menu is £25 for 3 courses at lunch time, and £30 for three courses at dinner time, which I think is very reasonable as it was beautifully presented and incredibly delicious too!
The cocktails were also amazing, AND if you book to dine here and let them know the code: ‘ANNASAYS’ – you can get a free cocktail for each person in your group throughout December 2019 and January 2020! ✨
