You know that mysterious project I’ve been mentioning for about the last 6 months?
Well this is it! I’m finally launching it. It’s taken me what feels like forever to get to this point but it’s finally here and I’m really excited to finally share it with everyone, as I know I’ve been irritatingly secretive about it.
Back in October/November 2017 I decided I wanted to start my own clothing brand. I set about creating a brand and website, and some designs I wanted to get printed, but come January/February this year, it became clear how much I was procrastinating on getting this thing launched…
It took a few long chats with Alex and one strong decision-making moment with Olivia at the Ignite Life workshop in March to realise that this brand I’d started creating wasn’t the right fit for me at all. It wasn’t personal to me and it was, I’ll be honest, pretty generic!
I pivoted. Turning my focus to an idea Alex and I had thrown around before and something that felt perfect for me in so many ways. A clothing brand inspired by Cornwall; no tacky slogans or Cornish flag designs, but something aspirational that says ‘I love this place’ in a subtle, kinda hipster-y way.
Once I’d realised my false start, it was all systems go to get back to the drawing board for what this new brand was going to be and what designs I’d create. I had the website in place already though, so I wasn’t completely starting from scratch – it just needed a design and content overhaul.
Luckily, (if you didn’t know) my main business is branding and website design… which puts me in a very fortunate position with this kind of stuff!
Anyway, I wanted to get everything launched for the summer, and here I am! It still took me ages I’ll admit; balancing a one established business, one established blog (hi!) and one brand new biz isn’t easy. But here we are – finally!
I chose the name South Coast Lifestyle because I think it pretty much sums up my own personal brand and everything I’m about. Coastal living is something I’m always promoting here on this blog, and Cornwall is of course my home and very close to my heart.
I personally think the word ‘South Coast’ is a nice open term that can incorporate Cornwall, Devon and basically the whole south coast of England, but you can take it to be a specific nod towards Cornwall’s south coast if you want to – it is my favourite area after all.
You may also notice on the designs it mentioned ‘since 1996’, and no – that’s not my birth year. It’s actually the year since I’ve lived in Cornwall (I wasn’t actually born here!), so I felt it was more fitting than anything else.
Each of the designs on the website I’ve created myself, and each item on there is genuinely something I would wear (and have been wearing!) myself too. I plan to be creating new designs each month including limited edition runs as well!
If you’d like to be kept in the loop about new products and sales/discounts, you can sign up for the SCL Club list to be the first to know before its published anywhere else.
I would absolutely love and appreciate your support if you fancy giving South Coast Lifestyle a like and follow on Facebook and Instagram as well. As part of the launch, I’m running an Instagram giveaway to win £60 to spend on the new website, so definitely get involved in that too!
To say thank you for supporting me, I am offering a 10% discount for my blog followers.
Just head to South Coast Lifestyle website and use code ‘CORNISHLIFE10’ – it expires next Saturday so be quick*!
* Code can be used once per customer on any order. Expires June 16th at midnight.
(Also big thanks to Alex for being a sounding board and model, and thanks to Olivia for taking photos for me in the howling wind – they’re the ones being used as banners on the new website!)
