For years I’d been meaning to move from disposable razors to a proper razor with replaceable blades.
Yes, I’d managed to get to age 24 still using crappy plastic disposable ones from Superdrug. Would you also cry if I told you I didn’t even use a shaving cream or foam until a year ago too?
I know – how did my poor skin even survive??
To be fair, they’ve always worked just fine for me, and it wasn’t even until a last year that I even experienced any kind of shaving rash/bumps. But what made me really want to change was the single-use plastic waste I was contributing to by replacing these little razors so often.
It’s such a bad habit, and seeing as I’d stopped using cheap, disposable toothbrushes and various other changes, I knew my shaving routine needed a switch-up.
I’d seen ads on Facebook and Instagram for FFS (Friction Free Shaving)* for a while, and after a few recommendations from people I know I thought why not give this a try! While it’s not totally plastic free, it’s a damn sight better than what I’d been using before, and the concept is pretty awesome too.
When you set up your account, you’re sent a brand new razor in either silver or rose gold (your choice) within a few days, along with your pack of 4 blade heads. Each head has 6 diamond-coated blades for a super smooth shave, and after all the good reviews I’d read, I was excited to try it out.
Before shaving I always exfoliate with my fave exfoliator – this delicious grapefruit one I was sent by Bloomtown. It smells amazing and its a pretty intense scrub, but check out my Bloomtown review for more details on that. Once I’ve done that, I lather up with a shaving cream or foam and get to work!
The first thing I noticed when using the FFS razor is how comfortable and weighty it is to hold in your hand, and how smooth it feels going over your skin due to its rotating head.
Having always used disposable razors, I’m used to a pretty close shave (like, the kind of ‘close’ where you also regularly nick yourself…). The FFS razor doesn’t quite achieve the exact same feeling but it’s still good and makes your skin feel smooth AND soft, thanks to its vitamin E strip above the blades.
I don’t have any other proper razors to compare it to in my experience, but in comparison to disposable ones, it’s definitely more comfortable and produces a lot less waste.
Friction Free Shaving definitely lives up to its name too! It’s a subscription service, so each month (or every two months – whichever you prefer) they send you a new pack of 4 blade heads. This means that you’re prompted to change the head before it gets icky, AND you never have that awkward moment where you’ve run out of razors and need to run to Tesco.
It’s £9 to get started with your razor and 4 blade heads, and then £9 a month (or every two months, again, depending on which you prefer) for each new set of 4 blade heads. I think it’s pretty good value considering the convenience and quality of the blades!
One cute feature they have as well is the ability to engrave your razor with your name (or whatever you’d like!). This usually costs £6 but if you use my code to sign up, you can get the engraving for FREE!
It looks nice, and it’s a good idea if you share a bathroom too. Also this month in my pack of blade heads I also got a free stick-on shower clip to hold my razor on my shower wall, which is pretty cool.
Go check out Friction Free Shaving on their website* and don’t forget to use my code:

* Oh and by the way, this is NOT a sponsored post; I simply wanted to share and review this product because I think it’s pretty damn good, and I know others will find this useful! If you use my code, I get £3 credit towards my next blade pack, but every customer is offered this scheme so it’s nothing to do with writing this post :)
