I’m starting to feel a bulge in my purse caused by the growing collection of Gift Cards I’ve hoarded over the past 12 months. The potential value of the contents of my wallet has only recently been brought to my attention after receiving several Gift Cards for Christmas.
I’m keen to start spending, but I’m holding back my excitement. I don’t want to get my hopes up when I don’t have a clue how much is on each card. If anyone else has ever had the experience of going to pay for something fancy with a Gift Card only to find that there’s a mere 71p left on it, you’ll understand the horrible feeling of disappointment, and the annoyance of having to shell out your own hard-earned cash when you’re too awkward to put the thing back.
I spent an hour the other day trying to find a website or app that would tell me how much was left on each of my Gift Cards. Although I do realise you can check your balance on some stores’ own websites, several of them told me I had to phone up or go into a physical shop, and I was adamant that there must be a way to check different cards all in one place, without the bore of human interaction.
Alas (for UK Gift Cards at least) there appears to be no solution.
In the end, I traipsed around town at the weekend going into shops and asking them to check my balance at the till. For someone who is inherently lazy, this felt like an unnecessarily difficult chore.
If someone could point me in the direction of a website, or preferably an App, that could scan any UK Gift Card and instantly tell me my balance, or at least let me enter the card details to find out, I would be infinitely grateful.
Alternatively, if you would like to take this idea and develop said App, I would love to help in any way possible, and you will also have the guarantee of my lifelong custom.
