I’ve seen so many amazing hot chocolates posted on Poldhu Beach Cafe’s Instagram that I couldn’t not have a try myself!
Do you ever do that? See something or a place on Instagram (usually a restaurant or cafe) and then you can’t stop thinking about it? That’s how I’ve been with Poldhu Beach Cafe for year or so now… and we finally got ourselves down there to try one of their famous hot chocolates the other day!
This popular cafe, set amongst the dunes, is open 363 days a year offering hot and cold snacks and drinks. We stopped off on our recent mini-Lizard tour to let the dogs stretch their legs on the beach and of course to try one of their hot chocolates – which I see everyone rave about on Instagram all the time!
I can confirm it was delicious! They have a few different fancy flavour options, including Aero, Biscoff, or Caramel Munchies (this is the one I went for!). They also offer dairy free options too if you prefer Soy, Almond or Oat Milk in your hot choc (I’m a big oat milk fan!).
My one tip would be to bring a wet wipe or something with you, as they do get pretty sticky! The cafe will provide you with a wooden spoon to help scoop the cream and toppings up though, which is much-needed.
The beach itself has a seasonal dog ban between Easter Sunday and the end of September (between 7am and 7pm), although that is subject to change based on the recent dog ban updates from the Council meaning dogs may get a few more hours and weeks to play on the beaches in high season – yay!
But I’d probably recommend out-of-season as the best time to visit this beach anyway, as hot chocolates taste best in the cold – right?
However in summer (or whenever you’re personally brave enough to face the Atlantic ocean!) there are lifeguards here, making it a popular swimming area and spot for surfing at low tide. This was my first time visiting the beach, so I have no idea of how busy it gets in high-season, but the car park seemed nice a big, and you can always park somewhere else along the coastline and walk along the South West Coast Path to this cove for some extra special scenery.
