In August we really did our best to make the most of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, and ended up eating at Indidog in Falmouth not once – but twice!
Did anyone else taking use the ‘helping out the economy’ excuse a little TOO much in August? 😬 Well I can safely say we did our bit and ate out as much as we could during the Monday to Wednesday discount days at our favourite Cornish restaurants. Plus, the way I see it – we’re probably going to paying for this back in taxes for years to come, so I was damn sure going to make the most of it!
On that cheery note, we decided to book a table one evening at Indidog with Tom & Olivia to celebrate their move to Reading at the end of August. I’d never been there before but heard great things, and they have the most incredible view over Falmouth harbour, so we thought it would be the perfect place for a send off evening.
For starters, we all went for the buttermilk chicken with spicy mayo, while Olivia chose the smoked salmon fish cakes. As an all day eatery, Indidog’s style of food is relaxed Mediterranean style, and while they are running on a stripped back menu at the moment due to COVID19, all the options sounded delicious.
For mains, we all ended up eating the different options available from the menu! I chose the Moules Marinière with a side of fries, Alex had the steak with sauteed potatoes, Tom had the grilled plaice, and Olivia had the summer vegetable pasta.
The food was all really good, although the only thing I will say was it was all quite slow. For two courses, we were there for 2 hours, with a long gap in between. It’s hard to be harsh about this though, because every single restaurant at the time was exactly the same! The Eat Out To Help Out scheme meant that every restaurant in Cornwall was bursting to the brim and incredibly busy during the whole of August, so I totally understand that many places were overwhelmed. Hopefully it was just a one off!
Anyway, it clearly didn’t bother us that much because we were back again two weeks later! But this time, for breakfast 😍
All the recommendations I’ve heard of Indidog were always for their amazing breakfasts, so we were really excited to try this. Alex is a self-confessed Cornish breakfast snob (his dad has always made a really good one, with all the trimmings!), so it’s always pretty hard to impress him.
However, he was seriously impressed by Indidog’s breakfast! The Full English comes with everything: eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato, smoky beans (a nice touch!), sauteed potatoes, black pudding, hogs pudding and fried bread. And it was all really good quality, tasty stuff too.
Meanwhile I went for their famed pancake stack. I’ve heard rave reviews about these so I had to try them, and I definitely was not disappointed! Beautifully light and fluffy, these American style pancakes come with either maple syrup & bacon, or syrup and berries, and they were just perfect.
This is definitely one of the best breakfasts we’ve had out before, and probably the best we’ve had in Cornwall.
^ Yes, you heard that right.
If you’re in the Falmouth area, I’d highly recommend booking a table for breakfast. The view is stunning as well! The restaurant is also dog friendly (it’s named after their dog, Indi, after all!), which makes it the perfect breakfast spot after a walk along the beach and harbour.
