At the very edge of the Pentire headland in Newquay sits the beautiful Lewinnick Lodge.
It’s perched right at the water’s edge looking out across the North coast of Cornwall over to Fistral beach and far beyond, and used to be a smuggler’s den! Lewinnick is well known for its delicious restaurant with glass walls and outdoors seating looking out onto the ocean, but many don’t realise it is also a boutique hotel with luxurious seaview rooms too.
We arrived to check in around 5pm, and were shown upstairs to our room – unsure what to expect! As you walk through the corridors above the restaurant, you can get a good idea of the modern yet rustic style of decor, and we were left to open the door to our room and explore for ourselves…
…Walking in we were totally wow-ed!
The pictures below don’t fully show the size layout of the room, but trust me when I say both our jaws dropped. We weren’t expecting anything quite like it! We were in Room 3, which I believe is also called the ‘Headland Double’ room, and I can’t recommend it enough.
When you first open the door, you’re met by wardrobes and storage on either side of you, and a partition with twin sinks in front, with an open panel that looks through onto the bedroom area and the seaview windows.
To the left of the storage and partition was a WC, and on the right an amazing open rainfall shower (so you can shower with a view out to sea!), and on the other side of partition was a freestanding bath. The bed itself was emperor size positioned just perfectly to look out at the ocean.
We couldn’t quite get over the incredible view, and also the beautiful calming grey/blue decor and styling within the room. We remarked to each other that there wasn’t a single thing we would change or improve upon in the room (and that is saying something – Alex is very hard to impress when it comes to the hospitality industry).
My two favourite touches were the binoculars perched on the windowsill, so that you could sit and look out to see and the opposite headland across Fistral beach, and the retro style radio, which was set up playing Classic FM for us as we walked in. Such a simple idea but it made it feel even more relaxing!
I immediately ran a bath to soak in for an hour or so before we were booked in for dinner downstairs. I rarely take baths (even though I have a lovely one at home!) but whenever I stay in a luxurious room like this with a freestanding bath (especially one with a view like this!) I just HAVE to get in. We’d had a busy day so this was the perfect way to wind down.
We then got dressed and headed down for dinner. One fun fact about Lewinnick Lodge is that this was where Alex and I had our first date, sat in the window seat one lunch time, where we both had the seafood linguine and loved it.
Despite the restaurant being incredibly busy that night, chances would have it that we were seated in exactly the same window seat as we had been on that date!
For starters, Alex chose the Thai style crispy pork salad, while I chose the tempura Gurnard, which was of course delicious! The restaurant style I’d say is a modern brasserie-style menu with fresh Cornish ingredients; delicious and high quality, but also good size portions too.
And of course – we both had to have the same dish for main that we had on our first date too – the Cornish crab linguine with crab, mussels, prawns (and plenty of garlic!). I kid you not that this is the best seafood linguine either of us have ever had and it will continue to be until someone tops it! It’s honestly so creamy and delicious, with generous amounts of seafood and just the right amount of garlic.
Bellies full, we rolled back upstairs to our room (which was totally silent and sound-proofed from the restaurant below, by the way) and pretty much fell straight to sleep in the large, soft bed. We both slept like babies and woke up to make fresh coffee in the room’s cafetiere.
I really did not want to leave that bed, sipping a mint tea and spying out to see with the binoculars. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful view to wake up to to be honest!
We had a busy day ahead of us on our press trip so sadly I did have to eventually drag myself out of bed and get ready to go down for breakfast. The restaurant is open for breakfast/brunch every morning with some great options (including pancakes – although sadly I was still so full from last night’s linguine I didn’t have it in me to order these…).
Alex went for a full Cornish breakfast with fried eggs, beans, sausages and bacon, while I chose eggs royale with smoked salmon. Both were delicious (although Alex always gets a little upset when Cornish breakfast’s don’t come with hogs pudding 😂), and paired with more fresh coffee we were ready to get on with the busy day ahead!
We really didn’t want to pack our bags and leave Lewinnick Lodge; that room was probably the best hotel room I’ve ever stayed in (these are some BIG claims!) and I knew I would be forever pining for that view, bath and bed when we left. I’ve told Alex if he ever wants to spoil me for an anniversary or birthday in the future, this is the place to take me! It’s also so nice that it has a special meaning to us with it being our first date too.

* I was given a complimentary stay here as part of a recent press trip, but all opinions are my own. We were truly wow-ed by this place!
Had the best stay ever, loved every minute of stay. Hope to come back again one day. Better start saving.
It’s so beautiful isn’t it!
