I’m officially converted to electric bikes – it’s definitely the best way to explore Cornwall!
Last year, Niki and I hired electric bikes from the EBike Cornwall shop in Penzance, and went for a cycle around Newlyn, Mousehole, and Lamorna Cove with the very handy aid of the ‘turbo boost’ feature!
We had a great time, so I was excited when they reached out about the new collaboration they’re doing with hotels around Cornwall. You can now pick up your luxury electric bikes for a day out from a range of locations, such as Mullion Cove Hotel on the Lizard, Hotel Meudon near Falmouth, and the Headland Hotel in Newquay. Combined with their shop in Penzance, this means you have loads of options for electric bike adventures all around south Kernow.
On a sunny Sunday, we opted to pick up our bikes from Mullion Cove Hotel so that we could make the most of an area we rarely visit. They were waiting for us outside the hotel when we arrived, complete with helmets and a saddlebag with lock/chain as well ready to go!
After cycling out of Mullion, we went south on the A3083 towards Kynance Cove – our goal destination – speeding along the roads with ease thanks to the electric boost. Honestly I don’t think I can go back to normal cycling, having an e-bike makes it so much more enjoyable (especially if you’re a bit of a lazy cyclist like me who struggles with any kind of small slope!).
We arrived at Kynance Cove car park and locked our bikes up, before heading down to the beach and taking in the stunning views in the sunshine. After a coffee & snack, we made our home on the sand and got ourselves straight into the sea, easing ourself in via some sea pools along the way.
It was a lovely hot day so we made the most of the beach, and then cycled back to the hotel for some lunch. However you could easily fit so much more into your day’s hire! EBike Cornwall have a list of suggested routes from Mullion on their website, with different times for you to choose from.
If you’re confident on country roads, I’d definitely suggest heading east to cycle along Helford river and circle back through the countryside; we’ve done some amazing walks around and here and it is truly stunning, wild, and mostly untouched!
Back at the hotel, we enjoyed a lunch of seafood snacks (and I had a delicious fresh crab sandwich) out in the sun in their garden patio with a glass of wine. The perfect end to a Sunday exploring.
Take a look at the EBike Cornwall website to plan your electric bike adventure!
