If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop for everything dog-related in Cornwall, this is the place to be!
When I first got Pepper, I went on the hunt for a good quality dog day care that was personal and friendly, and allowed the dogs plenty of time outdoors to play. After trying one place in Wales that turned out not to be as ‘luxury’ as they claimed to be (and were just in fact a standard kennels with a clever marketing team…) I remember being pretty nervous about leaving Pepper anywhere.
I came across Doggy Day Care Cornwall while looking online one day, and when we went down to St. Erth (near Hayle) to see how they care for the dogs I was instantly sold and felt comfortable leaving Pepper there regularly for day care and boarding. That was 3 years ago, and it’s been my go-to place to take Pepper ever since!
When we first started going, Doggy Day Care Cornwall – run by Jordan and his team – it was just him and a couple of employees running a small daycare from his large back garden, and a personal luxury overnight boarding service in the house.
Since then, they’ve taken over the former golf course next door and have done some incredible expansion to their business! With 13 acres of land to play with, Doggy Day Care Cornwall now hires around 11 employees and offers a range of services as well as their day care and luxury boarding including hourly play sessions, dog walking, a collection & drop off service in their purpose built vans, private secure dog park hire AND they have recently opened their Natural Cornish Pet Shop on site too!
Selling everything you need from food and treats to beds, bowls, toys and collars, the Natural Cornish Pet shop is open 7 days a week and has plenty of parking right outside. They specialise in stocking the the best raw food brands and have a huge range to choose from such as Natures Menu, Costwold, Country Hunter, Natural Instinct and Paleo Ridge. While I don’t personally feed Pepper raw food, I know it can be really hard to find good stockists of quality brands in Cornwall for those who do so this is great to know about!
Pepper very much enjoyed browsing the toy aisle, and we came away with plenty of healthy, tasty treats and chews for her as well.
The Natural Cornish Pet shop also stocks cat food, treats and toys too, so this really can be your one-stop-shop for all your pet needs.
We ventured outside to try out the Secure Dog Park, which you can book online to hire privately by the hour, two hours, or for 30 minutes at a time. It has 2 meter high fencing around the perimeter, plus a double gate entry to make sure it’s super secure. The space is lovely and big, with more than enough room to launch a ball around, and has a little wooded area for shelter and stick-finding too. There is a bench for the humans to sit on or enjoy a picnic while the pups run around, and water bowls nearby for tired and thirsty animals!
This is such a great facility for dogs with a habit of escaping, behaviour, aggression or fear problems, and recall training too. I think it would also be great to get together with a couple of friends to hire the space for an hour, bring a picnic, and let the dogs run wild and free without having to worry about them running off or bothering other people.
The best part is, there is also a little cafe on site too where you can grab yourself a hot drink and slice of cake to eat sat outside while the dogs play about in the field. There’s also a picnic area just outside the cafe too if you aren’t hiring out the field, where you can sit by the woodland to relax.
I tried one of their luxury hot chocolates – a chocolate orange flavour topped with slices of Terry’s chocolate orange – delicious!
This dog park is separate to their day care fields, which are split up into different areas dependant on each dog’s socialisation and for when groups need to be split into smaller, manageable pods. The dogs are given constant supervision with trained staff to play with, and have plenty of grassland, wooded areas and indoors space too when the weather takes a turn! Day care is open from 7:30am til 7pm on weekdays and 9am til 6pm at weekends.
Doggy Day Care Cornwall really is like dog-heaven – I can’t imagine a better place with a more personal, friendly service, and Jordan and his team are constantly improving and expanding. There are already plans in the works to add a groomers onsite, and potentially a training school and vets office too! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this local business.
How much would your dog love this place?
* We were kindly given a free play session in the secure field and some gifted products in the shop in exchange for review, but all opinions are my own
