Organic, plant-based skincare from Cornwall.
I’ve been following Bashō on Instagram for a while (they have an amazing imagery vibe and feel about their photos!) and absolutely love their brand and their ethos of natural, ethical skincare.
After having the opportunity to work with them on a photoshoot for their upcoming Summer campaigns, I was very excited to finally get to try one of their amazing facial oils.
Bashō is run by Mimi and Tor; two inspiring women from Cornwall who have been working together to create this beautiful brand over the past two years. They have thoughtfully created facial oils that work in harmony with your skin’s natural rejuvenating qualities, and focus on using high quality organic and plant-based ingredients with plenty of botanicals and therapeutic scents.
They believe that a holistic approach should be taken when it comes to skincare, and that things like lifestyle habits, stress and even your menstrual cycle can have an effect too, so it’s not just about what you put on your skin and what foods you eat. This I believe is what makes the basis of their gorgeous content; it’s all so calming and feels so dreamy and free!
They have some truly fascinating information on their website all about menstrual cycles and how it can affect your skin, as well as environmental daily influences and women’s life changes. I’d highly recommend having a read, and while you’re at it, take a look at their guide on Skin Types which is super interesting!
I personally have combination skin, meaning my T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) can generally be oily while my cheeks can be dry and matt. I used to have acne and still get the occasional flare up around my chin and mouth, depending on my hormones and diet.
Using their recommendations on the Bashō website, I chose to try their organic balancing face oil. This purifying blend contains of coconut, grapefruit and andiroba with hints of lemon and black pepper (it smells incredible!), and is fortified with essential acids and vitamins too.
The antioxidants help clear clogged pores while evening primrose oil helps to soothe inflammation, so perfect for aiding with blemishes and flair ups!
It may seem counterintuitive to add an oil to your face when you have oily skin (like I do!) but using pure oils actually helps balance your skin’s natural oil production.
I used to be the girl who would use the harshest cleanser and face scrubs and never use moisturiser because I was trying to strip my skin of oils (it was very oily when I was a teenager!), but what that actually does is encourage your skin to overcompensate and produce MORE oil! Since learning that and understanding my skin’s needs better, my skin has definitely thanked me for it.
I’ve been using this face oil for a week now and I’m already loving it and how my skin feels more glowing. I’ve been applying a small pump to my (slightly dampened) face each evening before bed, and allowing it to sink in and dry naturally while I sleep.
When I wake up I’ve been wearing less makeup too as I feel like my skin tone appears more even due to it helping with reducing the look of redness too. Overall I absolutely love it and have been enjoying the ritual of using it each night!
