Last weekend I was seriously craving proper restaurant comfort food – so we finally went and tried Sloth & Sparrow in Falmouth!
Is it just me who’s been getting really bored of cooking so much during this lockdown? I’ve been seriously missing going to restaurants and indulging in delicious treats that I don’t have to cook!
I’ve heard a lot of people talking about Sloth & Sparrow and have been dying to try it, so we got ourselves a FEAST of a takeaway from there last Friday night – the perfect way to bring in the weekend.
Having never ordered from there before, or been in the restaurant, we weren’t sure how big the portion sizes were, and so because we are pigs who eat a LOT of food, we ordered enough for a family of four. Oops! The menu at Sloth & Sparrow is so enticing though too; loads of your favourite comfort food classics like burgers, hot dogs and loaded fries, but all plant-based.
We ordered at around 5.30pm (over the phone), ready to pick up just after 6pm, and I brought big paper bag full of food home extremely excited. I love trying new eateries here in Cornwall, and even better if they’re vegan too!
In total we ordered:
- BBQ fried ‘chick’n’ burger
- Truffle ‘cheeze’ loaded fries
- Doner loaded fries
- A side of ‘nuggz’
- A side of fried cauliflower wings
They also do a fully gluten free menu, and a plant-based Sunday roast menu, which looks great too – again available for takeaway at the moment during the pandemic. I look forward to trying this soon as well…
The first thing we tried were the ‘nuggz’ – these and the fried ‘chick’n’ burger are made from their own trademark fried seitan recipe, and these were incredible! Alex was super impressed too. He is a meat-eater (I know, I’m amazed I even convinced him to try a whole plant-based takeaway in the first place) and enjoyed all of it.
I always find it hard to find vegan burgers that aren’t just made of boring beans or chickpeas! It gets dull, and I find it basically impossible to digest them, so it’s great to have something really different and so similar to real fried chicken. I think this could be my fave vegan burger in Cornwall 😯
The fries were delicious too, covered in tasty mayo and vegan cheeze, but as I find with a lot of vegan food (I think it might be the seitan?), we got full REALLY quickly. Plenty for leftovers the next day.
If you want a delicious comforting ‘junky-but-tasty’ meal that’s totally plant-based, I can’t recommend Sloth & Sparrow enough! This is exactly what Cornwall / Falmouth needs and I’m so happy it’s so close by 😍
