Revitalise Gaia Spa Day at Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa

We spent last Thursday unwinding in ‘Adults Only’ peace & quiet at Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa in Newquay.

My cousin, Susie, came to stay this week, and I haven’t seen her since she recently got engaged, so a spa day was just what we needed to relax and celebrate. Based on the western headland of Fistral beach in Newquay, we headed off on Thursday late morning for a leisurely lunch followed by our spa day.

We arrived at the hotel just in time for our spa lunch, where we were shown into the dining room and given the menu, plus a couple of glasses of Prosecco – yes please! All the Spa Days here include a 2 course lunch (we shared a starter and a dessert together to make it a mini 3 course lunch) and glass of bubbly, with use of the spa facilities from 10am until 6pm. Our treatments weren’t until 3:30pm, so we chose to arrive just in time for lunch.

First up, we shared a starter of warm crumpets with blue cheese dip and walnut salad. It was only about a year ago that I decided I finally like blue cheese, and this was delicious!

We both went for the prawn and crab linguine for main course, and shared the chocolate brownie (super gooey and tasty) for dessert. Completely matching meals! I won’t lie, after all that we were FULL and definitely in need of a lie down or float around in the pool…

We were shown up to the spa, which is spread over 3 floors, and given our robes to get changed. Once in our swim stuff, we ventured into the pool area, which features a large pool with fountains, a hot tub, sauna and steam room.

I have this thing about when spas use green lights to light their pools (rather than blue or white) – I think it makes it look so much more relaxing and inviting, like you’re about the enter a mermaid lagoon.

We pretty much had the whole pool area to ourselves when we went! There was one couple when we went in at first but other than that it was all ours. We drifted around the pool with some floats, talking all things wedding and bridesmaid preparation.

After some swimming and hot tub-ing, we headed upstairs to the Relaxation Room; a large mood-lit room with plenty of squishy loungers and chairs to laze about on while reading a magazine or having a cheeky nap! There were also lots of Gaia products to test while you chill. Gaia Skincare is the brand that Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa use for their treatment products, and the name of our ‘Ocean Gaia Ritual’ treatment that we were about to experience!

Within the ‘Revitalise’ spa day package is included a choice of one of their 120 minute treatments (yes you heard right – 120 minutes; that’s 2 hours of pure bliss!), and we were both booked in for an Ocean Gaia Ritual.

This involved full body exfoliation, followed by a mud wrap and scalp massage with hydrating oils, then once you’ve showered, a full body cleanse and oil massage and facial. My therapist was amazing and super professional; at the beginning she talked me through everything we were going to do and which products we were using, and gave me  a choice of aromatherapy oils to have as I lay down.

I’ve never had a treatment this long before, and I must say that 120 minutes is truly indulgent. It really gives you the time and space to get completely relaxed – so much so that I actually ended up falling asleep during the massage, waking myself up with a half-snore 😂

I would have been embarrassed but I’m 100% sure that they must get that all the time, and it’s really a compliment to how relaxed I was. I’ve never fallen asleep or even been close to falling asleep during a treatment before, so I must have been in total heaven.

Susie also loved her treatment, and we both came out feeling light and refreshing, and also a little bit sleepy too!

We had a wonderful day, with delicious food, a spa basically all to ourselves, plus the most incredible treatment. If you’re looking to spoil yourself or treat a loved one here in Cornwall, I’d highly recommend one of Fistral’s spa day packages.
