The Best Bands & Artists To See Live
When your partner is in the music industry, live music becomes a big part of your life.
I’ll pre-warn you that I have a really bizarre and incredibly varied taste in music. My favourite genre is 70s disco/funk, but I also love drum and bass, glam rock and folk. And of course a bit of Justin Bieber.
I told you I was weird.
This is another side effect of having a musician in your life; you end up appreciating a lot of different types of music, no matter how different.
So without further ado, here are some of the best artists I’ve ever seen live:
1. Florence and the Machine
I had to put this first because I think this tops them all. I have always loved Florence, and seeing her live was kind of like seeing Jesus (anyone else who has seen her live will agree that this is an accurate description of her performance).
2. Pendulum
Years ago they came to the Eden Sessions, and it was pretty epic. Again, it was just one of those weird surreal moments when you see such a massive band in the flesh and you’re like ‘I listen to these songs everyday and now I’m here listening to them right now’.
Trying… to… describe… feelings… but… can’t.
3. James Vincent McMorrow
When we went to see James Vincent, I had no idea who he was or whether I would like his music, but I basically fell in love with him on the spot. I’ve bought his 2 albums, and I listen to them on repeat most days. They are perfect for cliff/beach/woodland walks and any time you want to feel closer to nature.
4. The Darkness
These guys supported Lady Gaga when we went to see her, and they nearly stole the show for me.
Bangers, is all I have to say. Pure bangers.
5. The Staves
The Staves supported Florence on tour, and I loved their performance! The harmonies were stunning to listen to, and again (like James Vincent) I could listen to them on repeat all day.
6. Lady Gaga
It will come as no surprise that Lady Gaga was pretty impressive to see live! The costumes, the staging, the pyrotechnics – it was all insane and over-the-top!
I also have a list of bands I need to see before I die. In 2015 I managed to tick of Florence (thanks N!), but I still have a couple on my list:
1. Coldplay
Please someone make this happen someday <3
2. London Grammar
3. Earth, Wind & Fire

I’ve seen Coldplay live 2 times, and I cannot say enough how worth it it is. Save up, travel somewhere and go see them, cause it’s the performance of a lifetime! :)
Um, whaaattt! So, SO jealous that you’ve seen them twice – take me next time ;) x
I have to admit, seeing System of a Down live was pretty awesome.
Awesome! :D x
I’m liking James Vincent. Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy have to be my favourites. I would love to see Coldplay and Snow Patrol

James Vincent was incredible live; his music is just beautiful! I used to love Fall Out Boy – not so much a fan though now :) x
I absolutely LOVED seeing Coldplay, and funnily enough I reckon London Grammar were my #2 top band to see live. I’ve also been to a few fab smaller gigs when the artists were less known – Julia Stone, Ben Howard (whilst I was starting uni I was a bit obsessed and saw him 4 times!) and Frances were all really memorable. So many bands, so many great great gigs! Alice xx

Oh ffs, has everyone seen Coldplay but me? I neeeed to see them :(
Really like Julia Stone and Ben Howard too! I met Ben Howard a few years ago when he first played at Boardmasters – no one really knew who he was yet at that time and I bumped into him backstage when picking up flyers to hand out haha x
