An Evening of Wine and Cheese at The Bottle Newquay

Name me a better combo than wine and cheese… I’ll wait 👀

It’s the best duo of them all, and luckily, that’s what The Bottle Newquay specialises in well!

Based just off the beaten track in central Newquay, this wine bar and deli is the perfect spot for a chilled evening out with friends. Niki and I headed there last week to enjoy a couple of glasses and a bite to eat.

The vibe in here is inspired by the kind of informal and relaxed feel you might find in eateries and wine bars in France, which are designed to be a social experience and a way to try new flavours. While you eat, you can enjoy your wine by the glass or bottle, but the best part is you can also choose from their large range of locally produced and personally curated wines to take home with you too – either by the bottle or using their refillable wine service (a more eco-friendly way to purchase)!

In fact, the cheeses, chutneys and dippers you eat at the table can also be purchased from their deli counter too.

The wine list is extensive, with owners Rob and Toyah choosing the best seasonal options, as well as vegan, vegetarian and organic wines as well. The staff were really helpful in recommending us a wine to suit our tastes! The Bottle also offer private wine tasting sessions, which are great value and can be done with cheese pairings as well, plus they run regular events to book onto as well – such as a Cocktails & Cheese evening, or Champagne Supper.

From the menu there is plenty to choose from; whether you prefer a couple of small plates, classic French tartines, baked cheeses (hello baked Camembert, my fave!), or a full cheese board or charcuterie. We opted for a few of the small plates (a whipped feta dip, orange dusted burrata, and papaya with prosciutto) along with a cheese board to share.

There were so many delicious cheeses to choose from here, and again the staff were really friendly in helping us decide. In the end we went for Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar, a Cashel Blue cheese, and a Brie de Meux Donge – which all came served with crackers, fruit and chutney too. My favourite was the Cashel Blue; super creamy and a subtle blue flavour – incredible!

Whilst I do my best to cut out dairy as much as possible, nothing can stop me from ordering cheese when I’m out. I can’t help myself! But they also offer a vegan cheese board too, if you’d prefer or need to be dairy free, which is awesome.

The Bottle also offer a few desserts to choose from as well, which we couldn’t say no to (I know – I don’t know how we did it either after all that cheese!).

Overall we had a lovely chilled evening and it was the perfect way to round off the week. I definitely want to head back here perhaps for a wine tasting or to try more of their amazing wines and cheeses – plus they’re dog friendly so I may have to bring the pooches too :)

Thanks so much to The Bottle Newquay for having us! Check out their website for more info.
