My Top Favourite Place in Cornwall
It’s actually really hard to pick just one favourite spot in Cornwall.
This county is filled with so many stunning places that choosing just one place I like best is basically an impossible feat. After all, if I didn’t love almost every inch of this place, I wouldn’t always be banging on about how great Cornwall is, would I?
But alas, when people ask me off the cuff where I’d most love to live, or where I like to spend my time in Cornwall, I tend to always come up with the same answer.

Mawnan, Near Falmouth
It may seem really obscure and/or specific, but there’s something about this tiny little corner of the county that I feel has the perfect balance of being close to everywhere you could ever want: a lively town with great restaurants and shops (Falmouth), countryside and fields for days, stunning beaches looking out to the Atlantic, and my favourite river in the land – the Helford.

Of course, this idyllic location comes with a price tag, if you’re looking for property. Most of the houses are either enormous mansions with acres of land or farm houses, as the area is heavily protected from new builds.

However, it is the perfect place for a day trip or a meet up for walks and picnics with friends. You cannot beat the views from the South West Coast path here; one minute you’re looking out at the Atlantic ocean, and the next minute, the water turns crystal blue and you’re on the banks of the Helford, amongst scenery that looks more akin to the Mediterranean (I say it every time but it’s true!).

All along the South West Coast Path of Mawnan are dotted little pebble and sand beaches, lined with trees and always beautifully blue. It’s also nearly always flat here too, unless it’s particularly windy/stormy; as soon as you turn the corner facing towards Durgan, it’s all pretty sheltered.

On a slight side tangent, can we talk about these gorgeous fields? They are part of the South West Coast Path along Mawnan and they just make me so happy. I’ve always had a bit of a thing about big green fields, sweeping hills and, of course, the lone tree as the cherry on top. It totally reminds me of a cross between the Windows XP screensavers and scenes from The Lovely Bones (a stunning movie if you haven’t already seen it!).

All the blues and greens! It’s totally the best place to visit on a sunny Spring day like this one. These photos were taken on a warm April day, and even though it was still a little chilly in the shade, the colours of the water made me want to leap in and go for a swim!
I can’t wait for when it is warm enough to do so, and spend the afternoon sunbathing on the beaches and cooking up barbecues with Helford river as the backdrop.

And yes, it’s the perfect spot for photo-taking too!
We started our walk in Mawnan itself and walked just up to Grebe beach (a beautiful little cove just before you hit Durgan beach – the beach at the bottom of Glendurgan Gardens). Grebe is my favourite beach on this stretch of coast path; but again, it’s all so beautiful it’s hard to choose!

I love love love Grebe, definitely one of my favourite places in Cornwall – in fact, I think it was included in my list of favourite beaches that I first did for your link up many moons ago! Though back then I called it Durgan as I didn’t realise it had its own name!! Alice xxx
