Cornwall isn’t all about hitting the beach and long coast walks; there are plenty of ways to completely chill out too.
There are hundreds of benefits of Cornwall’s beautiful landscape and scenery, not least how inspired and tranquil it can make you feel. Being close to nature seems to do that, so where better to find time to focus on yourself and your mind?
But I’m not just talking to city-dwellers and people visiting Cornwall for a treat. I’ve been on a few different retreats and mindfulness days here in Cornwall that have been really amazing for refreshing my outlook and mindset, and reminding me to slow down and enjoy my beautiful surroundings more often.
Having dedicated time (whether it’s a day, a long weekend, or even a week!) to focus on introspection does incredible things for the mind and can really help you feel inspired and motivated if you’re in slump. Or if you’re super stressed and overwhelmed, it can be the perfect activity for truly relaxing, when you’re away from the distractions of home.
Below are 5 unique ways to relax and unwind in Cornwall:
1. Yoga & Calligraphy Mindfulness Day Retreat with Anon Design Studio
Erica and Lyndsey run Anon Design Studio; a calligraphy and stationary design company based in Plymouth. They’ve been running calligraphy workshops in Devon and Cornwall for a while now, but this year decided to combine this with yoga practice to create luxury mindfulness retreats in the countryside and by the sea. I went on one of these retreats myself and had an amazing time! There is something very calming about the process of calligraphy, and it was great to learn a new skill too.
Their next retreat is in November at The Watergate Bay Hotel and costs £120. Head to their website for more details!
2. Scarlet Hotel Day Spa Escape
We visited The Scarlet to experience their famous spa experience earlier this year and both Alex and I were totally blown away by the quality and attention to detail at their luxury spa facilities. There’s an indoor glass-housed pool, a natural, reed-filled pool outside, steam room, meditation room, lounge room, outdoor barrel sauna and cliff-top hot tubs that overlook Mawgan Porth beach. I’d highly recommend a day spa or spa retreat as a special treat!
View all their day spa packages on their website (starting from £165pp).
3. SUP & Yoga Weekend with Ride On Retreats
If you love being on the water but prefer to take your time, trying stand-up paddle boarding could be a great activity to try! This, coupled with daily yoga sounds like absolutely heaven. Ride On Retreats offer just that, over the course of 2 nights including meals, staying at Retallack resort in a lodge with access to the pool and other facilities too.
Starts at £499pp, view more details here.
4. Ignite Life Day Retreat
The Ignite Life Day Retreat was truly unique. Hayley and Helen combine life coaching, inspirational sessions with two calming yoga practices to create a day of relaxation and empowerment while being surrounded by like-minded women. Olivia and I had a fantastic time and both came away feeling replenished and motivated, as well as being clearer on our business and overall life goals too.
Hayley is soon to have a baby so these retreats probably won’t be running again until late next year I imagine, but definitely worth signing up and following their website for updates!
5. Writer’s Retreat at Pentillie Castle
Imagine escaping to the countryside for 3 days of focused writing and relaxing? This ‘Writers Retreat’ at Pentillie Castle sounds like a great experience for anyone needing to get some clarity with their writing, and includes food, writing workshops, and stay in the luxurious woodland Castle.
Read more details here (starts at £390pp).
