How do you celebrate your wins and achievements? Do you even reward yourself at all?
I know we all talk about self care and little things the make you feel more positive each day, but what about when you actually do something more significant to be proud of, or you achieve something you thought you couldn’t?
If you’re employed by a company who prioritises recognition, then maybe you already have some kind of celebration if you hit a goal or do something really awesome at work – whether that be a staff party, an ‘away day’, a bonus or some other kind of benefit. But if your company doesn’t do these things, perhaps it’s time to start motivating yourself with some recognition?
Similarly if you’re freelance or own your own business, it’s so easy to get so caught up in working towards the next goal and the next goal, that you totally forget to celebrate when you’ve achieved something!
Run your first workshop? Celebrate that! Hit your income goal this month? Go celebrate! Get up and speak at a conference in front of lots of people? Yikes – you definitely deserve a ‘well done’ treat! Finally complete that super long ongoing project? Reward yourself!
But I’m not just talking about work-related wins, there are things we forget to celebrate in our personal lives all the time too. It’s easy to remember birthdays, anniversaries, or anything to do with marriage/babies… but what about completing a personal challenge? Maybe you’ve been to the gym every day for the last month – that’s worth a treat! Or maybe you’ve finally finished painting the house – why not celebrate the achievement?
Below are a few ideas of how you can treat yourself and give yourself the recognition and celebration you deserve!
For Big Achievements (££)
Get your hair / nails done
Even if you don’t need any colour attention on your hair, why not book yourself in for a blow dry for sexy, swishy feeling hair? Or book yourself in for a nail appointment. To me, having my nails done is the ultimate luxury… I LOVE how they look but it’s definitely not something I can do all the time. It’s the perfect way to celebrate.
Book a table at that restaurant you’ve been wanting to try
I like making a list of local restaurants in Cornwall that I’m dying to try, so when for some reason Alex and I feel like celebrating or rewarding ourselves, we can refer to the list and pick one to book ourselves in.
Have a massage & spa day
There is NOTHING quite like having a massage (especially if you sit at a desk all day like I do!) in a dark, quiet room with delicious scents and soothing music. I’ve tried a few spas in Cornwall now and I think my favourite to have treatments is the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa* in Mawgan Porth (Newquay). Their therapists are so professional and absolutely incredible, and I just love that the treatment rooms have been designed to be ultra relaxing – they’re away from noisy areas so you can’t hear people in the pool while you drift into bliss, they have dimmable lights, aromatherapy, heated beds (with adjustable heat settings) and plenty of candles.
I recently tried out their Serenity Spa Day package*, which includes a 45 minute hot poultice massage, a 30 minute Oula facial, and a half day’s use of their spa facilities (with their relaxation lounge, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and large hydrotherapy pool) and it was bliss! I’ve never been to a spa on my own but I might be a convert – it was just the best way to wind down and take my time, whilst feeling totally pampered.
The spa package is £90pp, which I think for the quality of the treatments and inclusion of spa access is very reasonable, and definitely an achievable reward for yourself if you’ve just hit a big goal or celebrating something really important to you!
Get a hotel room for a night
Again, for a big achievement I think this is definitely justifiable! There’s something about fresh crisp sheets, room service and waking up in a different location that feels super luxurious and relaxing. Sometimes all it takes is a night and you can come back feeling totally refresh!
Book yourself a day of absolutely nothing
If you’re employed, take a personal day or book a day of your holiday – you’ve earned it! If you’re self employed, block out a day in the next couple of weeks and put your autoresponder on – it’s a day dedicated to doing just whatever you want. Whether that’s going out and about exploring your local area, or sitting at home on the sofa all day on Sims or watching Netflix, it doesn’t matter; whatever makes you happy!
Buy that workshop / course / thing
Now you could go ahead and treat yourself by buying a new pair of shoes or that dress you’ve been craving, BUT I’d prefer not to encourage wasteful consumption and fast fashion and all that… so why not put that ‘reward yourself budget’ towards something that will really improve your life or personal development? A workshop or a course for something you’ve been wanting to learn, or a tool / kit for a new hobby you’ve wanted to try.
For Smaller Wins (£)
Get a takeaway & watch your favourite movie
To be fair, takeaway can often end up costing the same as a nice meal (especially if you eat as much as we do!!), but there are often offers to be found online and if you try to only order what you can REALLY eat then it’s still a cheaper option than going out for dinner (plus you can just buy a cheap bottle of wine from the shop, rather than pay £20+ for a bottle in a restaurant…).
Make your favourite breakfast (pancakes anyone?)
Okay I know treating yourself shouldn’t all be about food…. but for some of us, food is life, and you just can’t help that! 🤷🏼♀️Treat yourself to a slow, lazy morning with breakfast in bed, or just a relaxed breakfast where you can make your favourite things and take your time for once.
Have a long bath with ALL the trimmings
… By which I mean: candles, bath pillow (you need one of these!**), cup of peppermint tea (or glass of wine?), a great book, soothing ambient music, a face mask, hair mask and all the rest.
Pamper yourself
Speaking of, why not treat yourself to an afternoon or evening of just doing a total pamper of absolutely everything. I’m talking hair (get that hair mask on), face (exfoliate, face mask etc.), body (exfoliate, fake tan, moisturise, the lot!), nails (trim, buff and polish), feet (soak, exfoliate, deep moisturise etc.)… you name it!
How will you celebrate your next win?
