Yes, I’ve been wearing this ski jacket solidly for the last 2 weeks. But is it really a surprise?
The last few weeks here in Cornwall have been truly miserable weather, with cold spells, hail storms, constant rain and crazy strong winds. As I mentioned in my recent post, life by the sea isn’t always peachy! Don’t worry Cornwall, I still love you though – I promise.
Olivia and I had been meaning to book a shoot day for a few weeks before we found what was supposed to be the one calm, non-rainy day of the month. The day started out nice but as we headed over to Portreath, the weather decided to punk us…
For 40 minutes, a mini storm of torrential rain and 50mph winds came out of nowhere and battered the North cliffs like crazy. If anyone follows either me or Olivia on Instagram, you may have seen our hilarious Instagram Story videos of us being knocked over by the wind and unable to get up. It made our shoot just a BIT of a struggle, but it was also pretty funny.
Luckily, we still managed to get some good photos for both of our work, and it sure put this Crush Jacket from Westbeach through its paces!! What a way to test out a product, right?
It reminded me of watching videos of professional camping gear quality test rooms where they basically recreate a storm and in the space of 30 minutes to test the durability of a product… this was basically what happened to us.
As I say, I’ve been wearing this jacket non-stop for the last couple of weeks anyway, so I already knew how warm and waterproof it was, but in that crazy wind its 60g layer of insulation really came into play.
The jacket has zip and velcro storm flap fastening, adjustable mountain hood, interior cuffs with thumbholes and a drawstring powder skirt – all very useful features on a ski jacket but also very effective at keeping out the bitter cold Cornish wind too!
Of course it also has 5 exterior pockets with secure fastenings, plus an interior media pocket and lift pass pocket.
I got the colour ‘Ultramarine’ and I’m so happy with it. I’m normally a black, grey and white gal but navy and royal blues like this often catch my eye and I think they look suitably minimal and classy. It’s nice to have a more colourful jacket on the slopes to help you stand out, but I’m enjoying the contrast when I’m out and about on walks because I’m usually wearing all black!
They also make this in a stunning mustard yellow which is super on-trend right now. I was very torn between the two to be honest. However, I think this one will be lasting me a long time.
Alex and I do in fact have an actual ski trip booked and in the diary for January, and I am really excited to have this jacket to accompany me in the snow. It’s only my second time skiing, and I can’t say I was much good last year, although that’s partly thanks to the fact we were snowed in for half the week… wish me luck!
The Crush Jacket is usually £240, but is currently on sale for half price, so I’d definitely recommend checking it out for a pre-ski season purchase, or indeed an amazingly warm addition to your outdoors Winter wardrobe.
