If you’re looking for the ultimate winter comfort menu in Cornwall, look no further than The Longstore!
If you follow my content, you’ll know that The Longstore is one of our favourite restaurants in Cornwall. It just has the perfect balance of really good quality, comforting, TASTY dishes! We live fairly locally to The Longstore on Lemon Street in Truro, so we were very keen to come along and try out some of their new wintery editions to the menu.
Cocktails at The Longstore always hit the spot! To kick off our meal we opted for two of their signature tipples – a ‘Banana Split’ (with Glenmorangie X, Giffard Peche De Vogne, Banane du Bresil, Cream Soda Cordial, and Cherry Soda), and a ‘Strawberry Kisses’ (with Black Pepper infused Vodka, Bergamot Liqueur, Strawberry & Kaffir Cordial and Whey). My fave was the ‘Strawberry Kisses’ – it tasted like a non-iced version of a strawberry daiquiri!
Have tried The Longstore menu before, we knew we had to start with at least one small dish of crispy chilli beef – it’s one of our favourites and comes with generous dollops of wasabi mayo for dipping!
Alongside this, we ordered the sticky teriyaki chicken wings from the specials board, which were super tasty as well.
There are so many great mains options on The Longstore’s menu; below are just a few of the options I was eyeing up:
- Longstore Chowder with smoked seafood, local mussels and crispy prosciutto
- Crispy Skin Confit Pork Belly with cider & smoked butter braised fennel, and Cornish gouda fritters
- Apricot Harissa Lamb Rump with curried aubergine, shallot bhaji and mint yogurt
But in the end we both decided what we really wanted was a juicy, hearty ‘Longstore Burger’, which came with a 6oz beef patty topped with salt beef, swiss cheese and house sauce. This was enormous and SO juicy – absolutely loved the salt beef topping here as well.
Instead of going for a standard side of chips or fries with my burger, I wanted to try out one of their super comforting winter warmers and opted for their ‘grilled truffle mac & cheese’. Honestly this could have been a main course in itself! It was THE BEST mac n’ cheese I’ve ever had 😍
It’s hard for my photos to do it justice, but it was the perfect combination of truffle-y, cheese-y, crispy and creamy all in one. So so good!
(I also had my eye on the roasted garlic & parmesan mash side… but we’ll save that for another day!).
There were so many delicious wintery desserts to choose from as well, including:
- Spiced apple & ginger cake with salted caramel sauce & pecan ice cream
- Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce
- Cranberry & blood orange mess with poached cranberries, blood orange curd and meringue
- Ricotta donuts with chocolate & orange sauce, ice cream & honeycomb
BUT, with stomachs full of tasty burgers, crispy beef, wings and cheese, we opted to share one dessert between us – the Yallah Espresso Panna Cotta.
Yallah is a local coffee brand that we absolutely LOVE! We buy their coffee to use in our coffee machine at home, and we both love a creamy panna cotta, so this was a no brainer. I’m so glad we chose this – it was super light but also indulgent at the same time.
Throughout winter, The Longstore are also offering lunches, Sunday roasts, AND a newly introduced Saturday ‘Bottomless Brunch’! We’re excited to give this a try soon.
