Darker and colder evening mean one thing – movie nights with great company!
Last week, Olivia, Alice and I popped up to Cawsand to stay at the Bluemonkey holiday cottage for a girl’s evening of photo taking and snuggling down in front of a log fire.
I think one of the best things about Autumn/Winter and colder evenings is having a good excuse to just spend an evening slobbing out in front of the TV and just relaxing with friends. Movie nights are some of my favourite things to do for a girly evening, so after our meal out we got the log fire roaring and got settled in for the night.
1. The right movie
Obviously this depends on your friends’ tastes in films; the three of us all have quite different movie tastes, but a modern romantic comedy is usually mellow enough for everyone to enjoy. We chose Friends with Benefits, which we’d all seen before, but knew it was pretty funny and good for a girls’ evening.
2. Snuggly blankets
There’s nothing better than a thick, snuggly blanket to cuddle up in while watching a movie, so get stocked up. We found some blankets in our holiday cottage bedrooms, but at home I just have baskets of blankets in most rooms so I can grab one easily if I need it on a cold night.
3. Wine and/or warming drinks
Obviously wine or prosecco is lots of fun to pair with a girly evening, but if you’re not fancying a drink (or if not everyone can drink) a warming hot beverage like a herbal tea, hot chocolate or mulled apple juice is perfect for Autumnal and Wintry evenings too.
4. Cute pyjamas
Another great thing about the colder weather is wearing fun pjs – the soft and fluffy kind that feel like they’re giving you a big hug! These are the best for settling down with a movie, but if not, joggers and a cuddly jumper will do as well. (My Frenchie pjs are from Primark by the way…)
5. Snacks and popcorn!
Obviously the snack of choice for a movie night is popcorn, and these gourmet popcorn boxes from Popcorn Shed definitely do the trick! They come in loads of delicious flavours like Pecan Pie, Rich Chocolate, and Salted Caramel, and they are the perfect sweet treat for any movie night. Popcorn Shed use all natural ingredients in their popcorn, and they’re gluten free too, PLUS the packaging is adorable. The Salted Caramel flavour comes designed like a seaside beach hut – perfect for our seaside holiday cottage trip.
6. A log fire and/or candles
I loved the our holiday cottage had a log fire with plenty of wood stocked up for us, but not all of us are lucky enough to have a stove! I never had one growing up, and my house now doesn’t have one either, so I do feel like I’m missing out sometimes. However, a good amount of nice scented candles and dimmed lights/fairy lights can often make up for it with atmosphere!
* I was sent some free popcorn to try out from Popcorn Shed, but all opinions are my own
