So the gyms are finally open again!
After months of home workouts, and businesses thinking outside the box to provide exercise classes and workout programmes online, I think it will be really interesting to see who continues with their gym memberships now that they’re open for business again.
I have to say, I personally suck at doing home workouts; no matter what I can’t seem to motivate myself to exercise properly when I’m in my own home. It’s too easy to talk myself out of it, or just do it half-assed… anyone else get like this?
When I have to physically take myself out of the house and go somewhere, I’m so much more motivated to stick to a routine, and being in a different environment puts me into a different headspace – so I’m not distracted by work or chores (or the dogs!) while I’m working out.
But do you know what’s funny?
This is exactly how people feel when they first try working from home… and I’ve been doing that for the last 5 years with no problem!
I suppose self-motivation comes with practice. Over the years I’ve learned what helps to keep me focused in my work while I’m at home, such as learning what times I’m most productive, having a tidy, dedicated office space, and taking breaks throughout the day.
So I suppose with a bit of time and dedication, I could probably get used to working out at home too… We’ll see how I feel now that I’ve started going back to the gym! One of the main things I like about having a membership is being able to go to workout classes (something that many gyms are still navigating at the moment with social distancing measures!), because again, I like the motivation of having to be there at a set time, and having people there to spur me on.
Literally the opposite of work-mode Anna, who could happily tap away at her laptop without seeing another human for weeks!
Anyway, whichever suits you, one thing that has been a total saviour during lockdown has been finding clothes that are super versatile and can take me from working-from-home to working-out-at-home in seconds! It’s laziness at its finest, because who can be bothered with outfit changes?
This is why I’ve been loving the Raw Collection from MP; it’s cute enough to lounge around in while I work from home, but also designed to be great to work out in too! The edgy style of their crop tops and joggers have been the perfect two-in-one items for my lockdown wardrobe.
If you didn’t know, MP is the training apparel brand of My Protein; my fave company for protein powders (they have some delicious vegan ones!). I’ve bought lots of their workout stuff before and I always think the fit is on-point – I’d definitely recommend checking them out if you’re in the market for some new workout gear now the gyms are back open, or some ‘not-so-active’ wear if you want a cosy loungewear piece too!
