Lunch at The Vault in Penzance

We don’t often find ourselves down in Penzance, but when we do, we take advantage of the many great eateries in the area.

Due to the only shop in the whole county to sell decent men’s suits being in Penzance, we found ourselves wandering about the town there last weekend.

It was surprisingly busy. The only times I’ve been to Penzance recently it’s been pretty much deserted. It’s always struck me as a bit of a ghost town, with a huge number of retail outlets either in a ‘closing down sale’, or closed down for good, but it looked rather quaint in the July sunshine.

We walked up through the main street and turned the corner, deciding we would try out The Vault for lunch.

I’d only ever heard of it as being a nightclub, but the stunning regency building has recently been transformed into a ‘restaurant by day, bar by night’ sort of place.

We grabbed a seat outside to enjoy the sunshine, and ordered from their 4 tapas dishes for £12 menu.

 

There were plenty to choose from, but we went for the nachos with guacamole, crispy potato skins with sour cream, fish tempura with wasabi mayo, and fried halloumi with hummus and pita.

My personal favourite were the nachos and halloumi. Could it be because I love cheese more than anything else in life? Possibly.

N preferred the tempura, and I can never say no to a bit of pickled ginger!

After our light lunch, we wandered around the back roads of Penzance to the harbour before strolling back to the car, passing many more bistros and restaurants on our way. It seems Penzance is the place to eat out, and I now have many more places on my list to try out!
