The Start of Something New

Each January I, along with everyone else, get the urge to start something new, thanks to the ‘fresh start’ pressures of the New Year.

I’ve tried blogging several times. Domains were bought, weeks were spent setting up fancy WordPress sites, and large chunks of my life ended up consumed by troubleshooting HTML and writing below-average quality posts that no one read.

What makes me think it’ll work this time?

I’ve come to realise I am always a starter, and rarely a finisher. However, I occasionally do finish things and maybe, just maybe, this blog will be one of those things. (Evidently you don’t ever finish a blog…but you stick to it, and that’s what I mean.)

If I discouraged myself from starting things each time by reminding myself that I’m unlikely to finish them, where would that get me? Probably nowhere.

Before when I’ve attempted blogging, I’ve deliberately restricted myself too much. I’d pick a really narrow topic like ‘make up tutorials’ or ‘restaurant reviews’ and find myself running out of interest after a month or two talking about the same stuff.

This blog will be about anything I like, at any given moment.

SEO gurus and pro bloggers will say that won’t work; in this day and age where every woman, man and dog has a blog, you need to target a niche.

Yeah I know…but I don’t want to.

Even if this does just end up being a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing, I’ll be happy that I’m doing something moderately creative.

 

So here it is; the Start of Something New.
