Planning a Last Minute Holiday – Minus the Headache!
So as you may have heard, we’ve booked our ‘last minute holiday’ to Mexico in January!
However, planning for a last-minute holiday trip can be really frustrating, especially if you can’t get exactly what you are looking for. Finding a great yet affordable deal is what everyone wants, but if you think it’s impossible – you’re wrong! Here are some tips for planning your trip…
Not exactly last minute…
Contrary to what you may think, last-minute travel doesn’t mean packing the bags and leaving literally a minute before the flight. In fact, this kind of travel often takes place two weeks or more from the day it was booked. In fact, this is actually much more affordable than showing up at the airport and buying a ticket right before the flight, since there’s a chance of saving up to 50% of the original price. It’s definitely worth looking for!
Mid-week travel saves money
Even though people generally tend to book weekend departures, the truth is that loads of money can be saved by opting for mid-week travel. Hundreds of pounds can stay safe and sound in your pocket if you decide to choose travelling on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, since airports are often pretty crowded on weekends, and that means airline companies may take advantage of that by setting higher flight prices.

Look for secret hotel deals
Secret hotel deals are true gems of this kind of travelling; however, there’s a little trick. These can often be discovered through the apps of the holiday/travel companies, so go ahead and download one as soon as possible! You then just need to choose a location you’re interested in, as well as the preferred hotel star rating and price, and awesome deals will pop up that you may not have seen before!
Be flexible about hotel accommodation
Travelling last-minute does require flexibility about hotel accommodation, which is why it’s probably more appropriate for fun/spontaneous adventures than for important trips, like your honeymoon. If you set your mind on a particular type of location or accommodation, you may be disappointed when you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for. So just be prepared to reach a compromise with your travel buddy – everything will be fine as long as the two of you are on the same page!
Think about the destination in advance
The destination choice is essential, so it’s a good idea to think about it at least slightly advance – in fact, with our Mexico trip it was actually vital that we booked more than a month in advance, as we needed to prepare ourselves with vaccinations beforehand!
If you’re a fan of exotic places, why not try an exotic and mysterious city break like Marrakech, Morocco? Or maybe the Mediterranean coast for a Winter beach trip? It’s much quieter at this time of year! Also, holidays in Cornwall, England, can be truly magical – just saying! The breathtaking landscapes and hidden treasures here are pretty much guaranteed to make you fall in love – plus you don’t even need to fly here if you’re in the UK!
As you can see, travelling last minute is not impossible with a bit of planning. Thinking everything through is essential, as well as looking for special deals that’ll help you save some money. Just be flexible and well- organised, and everything will be just fine!
