Bedroom Makeover: Master & Spare Room Reveal

To follow on in my series of home renovation ‘reveals’, say hello to our two new bedrooms!

Okay so I feel like the word ‘reveal’ might be a little bit cringey (I’m not on Pimp My Ride or 60 Minute Makeover), BUT I am definitely excited to show off these two newly updated rooms in our house.

If you’ve been following along, you may have seen our beautiful bathroom transformation, and the living room makeover too, and now I am really pleased to show you the new master bedroom and spare bedroom too. And guess what – I actually have some proper before photos to show you this time!! I’ve been so bad with the other ones, but because I had to take these photos in order to sell the old wardrobe suite, I have them handy to pop on the blog.

So imagine you’re walking into the room; this is your first view when you walk in, with a random big pink wardrobe straight on your right hand side…

…you walk a bit further, and there’s floor to ceiling mirrored pink wardrobes in front of you and all along the whole of the back wall too…

…plus a long pink dressing table area and some nearly-falling-apart pink curtains all along the right hand side wall…

…then as yourself to face the way you came in, there’s an entire over-bed storage area – all pink, to fit in with this old retro suite.

Phew! That’s a lot of wardrobes, and a LOT of pink (considering the carpet was also a deep rose pink also). As you might imagine, this wasn’t really the type of timeless, minimal style we were after.

So this is how it looks now when you walk in! First of all, you’re not greeted first thing with a big wardrobe divider to your right when you walk in – it’s a lovely big open space.

The room has been re-carpeted (as we have throughout the house), we’ve fitted these beautiful thick grey curtains (with matching cushions) from Dunelm, and completely got rid of the whole pink suite in favour of these mirrored sliding wardrobes from IKEA, creating more light and a spacious feeling in the room.

I love how light this room is; I think it’s the lightest in the house, with a nice big window above the (now) minimal, white dressing table (also IKEA) and the simple grey stool from Made.com, and a big glass patio door letting plenty of light in too. It’s a pretty big room to be honest, once we took out all the masses of storage! Alex’s amazing queen bed fits right in, and we’ve also bought some IKEA bedside tables too (everything is from the Malm range).

I have this piece of artwork still to go above the bed, brought over from my old house, and I’m loving this cute little yucca plant that my sister and I picked up in IKEA as well. There’s no shame in it, folks – IKEA is bloody good value for money! We also still have some voiles to put up on the patio door for privacy, but other than that – this room is complete, and I’m so in love with it. It truly is such a nice tranquil space to come to at the end of the day.

Next up is the spare room! Whilst I don’t have any before photos of this room, it was much the same as what the living room was like before it was renovated; a storage room with (again, pink carpet) random sofas and boxes piled up.

Now it’s a clean, minimal space that we can host guests to come and stay, with my old double bed from my house, this cute bedside table from Tesco (it was like £15 sale – bargain!), and my old chest of drawers and mirror too. I’d like to get a nice cosy chair to fit in the corner by the foot of the bed for some added comfort – I’m absolutely loving some of the occasional chairs on the Cox & Cox website at the moment… especially the rattan ones – but we shall see!

Having all these light airy rooms definitely makes the bungalow feel huge! And the dogs love having plenty of space to run around and play together. They’re not allowed on the beds but they enjoy sitting by the patio door in master bedroom catching the sun on a warm day.

Speaking of, I’ll show you a quick peek at my next project for Spring… the outdoor space! I’m thinking we will add some turf, plants, a dog-washing station and generally tidy it up and help to make it more private too. Watch this space!
