My Cosy Gaming Work from Home Office Makeover
For my 30th birthday I decided my gift to myself would be to makeover my office into a cosy work from home space that could double as a gaming room too!
What many people don’t realise about me is that I balance my outdoorsy, Cornish lifestyle alongside being chronically online (I mean, I do run a website design business as well!), and my love for cosy gaming.
What exactly is cosy gaming?
I’ve always loved video games and computer games, and have been lucky to grow up with access to lots from an early age thanks to my tech-loving dad. Whether it was Spyro, SSX or The Urbz on Playstation 1 and 2, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing and Just Dance on the Nintendo DS or Wii, or literally hundreds of hours spent playing Sims, or Neopets, on the computer, I think possibly months of my life so far have been spent on these games 🤣.
Even now as a 30 year old, I still play the Sims 4 on my computer, Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley on my Nintendo Switch, and I even have a Steam Deck so I can play games like Coral Island and Coffee Caravan from the sofa.
But I have no regrets!
I’ve always found it hard to put into words why my gaming habit feels justified, but then I came across the concept of ‘cosy gaming’ a year or two ago on TikTok.
‘Cosy games’ are video games that prioritise relaxation and have a calming effect, often involving whimsical visuals, farming, crafting, exploring, or creativity.
It’s the antithesis of typically competitive, high stakes video games that often involve violence or at least a lot of stress & challenge. Rather than raising your cortisol levels, cosy gaming is thought to actually be beneficial to your mental health.
It’s hobby that can help you to relax (just like doing painting or making things), but is also considered a bit of a ‘lifestyle’ too. If you search online for ‘Cosy Gaming’ videos, you’ll see lots of relaxing content that often involves snuggling up with a cup of tea and a blanket, with chilled music and calming lighting.

And so I wanted to create the cosy gaming vibe in my home office!
As well as this blog, I’ve been running my website design business for 10+ years now, and work from home in my own home office doing this. As an introvert, I love having my own, peaceful dedicated space for work, but I was feeling it was in need of an upgrade.
Rearranging the layout & my desks
When I first moved into this office room, I loved the idea of having a big desk in the middle of the room so I could see the door and feel like a CEO when someone walks in.
…Well, as you can imagine. No one ever walks in 🤣. Only my husband, who also has a computer set up in here (although he rarely uses it and has his own separate office).
And the more I looked at cute & cosy office set ups online, I realised that this layout had a few flaws; I wasn’t able to use behind-screen lighting (we’ll get to that below), a lot of wires would always be on display, and it was hard for me to get content of me working at my desk from this angle (I need to do this a lot for marketing in my website business!).
So I re-jigged the layout to the edges of the room, and while it took a bit of getting used to, I now love the spaciousness this creates in the room!

Keyboard & office tech
YUNZII B75 PRO Mechanical Keyboard*
I loveee this thing, it’s so pretty and makes the perfect ‘clicky clacky’ satisfying sound. Here’s my full review on TikTok.
14 inch Macbook Pro*
My actual Macbook is coming up to 6 years old now. Praying it continues to survive a few more years! I use this with the Apple Magic Mouse*.
IIYAMA 24 inch Monitor*
This is a very affordable monitor that I connect to my Macbook for a second screen, and to be honest it’s great for the price! I’ve also found the customer service to be excellent too. I had a previous one that wouldn’t turn on one day after I’d had it for over a year, and they sent a replacement no questions asked.
Govee Light Bars*
Okay these are what realllly uplevels a desk area from being plan to being PRO! You can customise the colours and change the colours whenever you like to suit your mood, all from an app on your phone, and I’m obsessed.
Creative Pebble Speakers*
Again these are pretty affordable and I think they look great on my ‘all white’ desk too! The sound quality is absolutely fine for what I use it for (I’m not really a speaker snob or musician/DJ/producer so don’t need anything fancy).
Logitech Blue Yeti Microphone*
As someone who runs a YouTube channel and podcast for their business, this mic is a must and is great for creating really clear, crisp audio in your content.
Nintendo Switch / Steam Deck
As a cosy gamer girlie, I love my Nintendo Switch*, and have a cute case for this from Amazon*. Last year I also invested in a Steam Deck* to play non-Nintendo games from Steam and I love it! It’s essentially a portable, handheld PC (again, case from Amazon*).
8BitDo Controller for Switch*
This pink controller is adorable and connects perfectly for when docking my Switch, AND connects with the Steam Deck too (it’s bluetooth so connects with anything really, but the XYAB pad has the Switch configuration).
Airpods 4*
I swear by Airpods if you already have an ‘Apple Ecosystem’ because of how seamlessly they connect between my iPhone and Macbook, making it super easy to switch between what I’m listening to, and use Siri while you’re running etc. Also obsessed with my Hubba Bubba bublegum airpods case*, because why settle for a boring case?
Tamagotchi*
I was OBSESSED with these as a kid and my sister recently gave me one for my birthday and it’s the ultimate cosy gaming companion.

I love this stand for displaying my Nintendo Switch and controller as it looks so sleek and minimal here.

This is the perfect size to fit my Macbook, second monitor screen and speakers on across my desk.

I have this in the colour ‘grey’ and love the way it looks and keeps my desk from being scratched.
iPhone charging stand (MagSafe)*
This charging stand charges my iPhone 13 Pro really quickly and is so handy to have on my desk so I can just slap it up there when it needs charging – no cable needed! I also think the white design looks really sleek.
Elgato Wave Mic Arm*
Omg this is sooo much better than other, cheaper mic arms I’ve tried. The way this one moves and mounts is so sleek and fits perfectly on my desk, so if you’re torn between cheap options and this one I can only seriously recommend going for the Elgato one.
Black mouse wrist rest*
An absolute must for avoiding repetitive strain injury or carpel tunnel as someone who is at a desk all day!
Neom Wellbeing Pod oil diffuser*
I got this for my birthday a few years ago and absolutely love it. It has a calming light as well as the scent and the overall look of it just gives the perfect ambience to my office (I also have the Neom oils and they’re gorgeous too!).
Cloud trinket tray*
Random but so cute for collecting odds & ends on your desk (eg. lip balm, hand cream etc).
Vertical laptop/ipad/notebook stand*
This is adjustable and can be used for storing your laptop/ipad or just notebooks on your desk.
Cosy gaming office chair & beanbag

I did a full review of this chair on TikTok because I love it so much. It’s incredible comfortable, looks great (and not too ‘hardcore gamer boi’ like so many ergonomic chairs!!) and even has a footstool so you can sit cross legged on it while you work or game.

Mine is the plush ribbed fabric beanbag style in Medium (black) and it’s so comfy. The perfect addition to my office for days when I just want to lounge out rather than sit upright at my desk.
Wall shelves & accessories
Tide clock
This is one of my favourite things in my house, let alone my office! This tide clock is made by Ocean Clocks and tells you at a glance when high tide and low tide are, which is perfect for us as we live in Cornwall and when I’m working I can easily see when is a good time to go to the beach or my fave coastal locations.
Faux plants & Whiteboard
I have a ‘black thumb’ when it comes to gardening and plants and have been known to kill cacti (which is bloody hard). So all the plants in my office are fake from IKEA (as is the whiteboard on the wall too).
Enamel pin framed board*
Something I like to collect are enamel pins, and I love this framed board from Amazon that is a great way to store them AND keep them on display easily!
Misc. shelf accessories
I have several lovely candles here ready for burning and making my room smell great, plus my lucky cat (I bought this on our trip to Japan!), and a bridal jellycat toy and mini disco ball from my friends when they organised my hen do!
Prints
I have a few different framed prints around the room – some were gifts, but these two are from local Cornish artists (sunset by Alesa Designs, and ‘you keep me wild’ print card by Imogen Davis).
Business sign
I had this acrylic sign made for my business logo on Etsy and I love how it turned out! Such a simple way to add professionalism to my office.
