Our Spare Bedroom Makeover (+ Why I Own 2 Identical Sofas…)

For over a year, our spare bedroom was used as a dumping ground for boxes and things that didn’t have a place in the rest of the house.

I think this must be how most young, child-less couples in 2 bedroom houses live, and if not, props to you guys!

Anyway I was getting fed up with treating our guests to a badly blown up air mattress and bedside tables fashioned from old cardboard boxes, so we decided to give it a bit of a makeover! *Cue 90s teen movie montage*

 

The above is a really bad before photo of the spare room. It’s not even my photo… or my bed for that matter. I stole it from the estate agent listing from when we bought the house because I failed to take my own ‘before’ pic… so I guess, credit to YourMove? Soz everyone for being a failure of a blogger.

Ready for the ta-da moment?

TADA.

All wide-angle photography lenses aside, I’m pretty chuffed with the transformation. Not only is there the obvious furnishing and layout changes going on here, you’ll also notice a certain brand new heat source has appeared. Oh hey there, central heating!

We also added new laminate flooring and gave the walls a lick of fresh paint (look I did a feature wall *much excite*!).

Our theme for the room (in case it’s not evident), was dark grey, black and copper – because that’s all pretty on-trend now, right? I also wanted to add a bit of colour (so unlike me, but hey, the spirit moved me) so I picked up these gorgeous abstract prints by Caleb Troy from Society6.

Had to jump on the bar cart trend too, didn’t I.

Although Alice pointed out that placing such a treasure trove of alcohol in the guest room could be rather too trusting, I think it’s the perfect addition to the space. Plus I have no idea what I would have put there instead (and it’s handy for storing camera bits too!).

It’s from Tesco and it somehow reminds me of my childhood but in the best and most fashionable way, I promise.

So, on a slight tangent, you may have noticed that this sofa ^ looks suspiciously similar to the sofa in my living room. That would be because they are the same sofa – I have two of the same exact sofa in one house.

And I’ll tell you for why;

You see, this Ikea’s Finest sofa is not just a sofa; it is a double sofabed, with extra storage in the corner section. It comes in my favourite shade of grey. It also costs less than £400.

For the life of me, I couldn’t find a corner-sofa-bed-storage seating solution anywhere that was as good value as that. So I bought a second one, exactly the same.

This isn’t even sponsored by Ikea (I wish!) – I just feel I have to tell you this because to me it felt uncomfortable to do such a thing. I don’t know if other people think this is fine and normal, but to me it felt wrong to buy two of the same sofa.

But here I am, enjoying duplicate sofa life.
