Trelissick Gardens Illuminated

I can’t remember the last time I’ve visited the actual gardens at Trelissick!

We went there lots as children, exploring flower beds and climbing trees on Autumn days, or going for our ‘Teddy Bears Picnics’ on Primary School visits. Occasionally in Summer there would be family days here where circus schools would teach us how to juggle and hula hoop in the fields, and Punch and Judy puppet shows would spring up from between the bushes.

I’m sure much of this still goes on, but as a teenager and adult I guess I hadn’t thought too much about visiting again, which is silly as with a National Trust membership I get in for free!

I do regularly take the dog for a walk around the fields and riverside walk around Trelissick, though, but seeing as the gardens themselves aren’t dog friendly, that’s given me less reason too.

However I recently saw that they had quite a few Christmas events and activities going on, such as the Garden Illuminations. Looking at the photos online, I knew I wanted to go and see the enormous trees and beautiful landscaped walkways all lit up in a coloured glow and fairy lights.

Wrapped up in hats, scarves and wooly jumpers, we strolled around the gardens, taking our time to enjoy the lights and the new, eery perspective this glow gives to the different trees and plants.

The illuminations are continuing all this week until Saturday, and then after Christmas until New Year’s eve, so I’d definitely recommend taking a visit while you can! Find more info on the Trelissick Gardens website.
