Embracing the Mud

Much like life, sometimes you’ve just got to learn to embrace the shit weather and mud.

Literally the weather here in Cornwall over the past few weeks has been utter RUBBISH. Instagrammers and bloggers alike are all complaining about the lack of content due to the rain, wind and generally gross weather.

Us dog walkers are having a bit of a miserable time too. I know this is to be expected in January but I’d really just appreciate a break with some sunshine and less grey is that too much to ask??

Evidently it is. So resentfully we must just embrace the mud it seems!

Of course I know there’s always the beach, but the tide times don’t always match up with when I want to go, and the wind has been rather off-putting lately.

This is exactly the reasons why I love to get planning my year in January. Making lists of things I want to do and places I want to see, booking holidays and planning road trips.

Without plenty of things to look forward to, it’s a struggle to push through this miserable time of year feeling positive. Our bodies and minds just want to hibernate, and I personally find motivation quite difficult.

Forcing myself to get outside and get fresh air is something I’ve found to be super important as well. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut of sitting on a laptop all day, making dinner and watching TV and that’s the day done when it’s wet outside and dark so early.

Even if we have to wade through thick mud and puddles to do it!

At least the dogs don’t seem to mind…

And to be honest, with the right footwear (I’m in desperate need of some new wellies!), I don’t mind either at the end of the day! I mean, it’s a huge pain to have to wash and wipe down Pepper after each walk, but other than that I do enjoy myself once I’m out.

Like I said, it’s just about dragging myself off the sofa and stopping complaining about it!

Also at the end of the day I can’t complain too much – I live in the beautiful countryside surrounded by many stunning walks and safe places to take Pepper. It’s definitely a luxury I forget to appreciate!

I guess weather and walking conditions like this teach us to celebrate the drier, warmer months (is there such a thing as dryer months in Cornwall??) more – so at least there’s that!
