1940s Vintage Lunch at Bone China in Truro

Back in 2015 – the year I started this blog – I organised a Cornish blogger meet up at Bone China.

At the time, Bone China was a small, brand new tearoom & cocktail bar tucked away next to Bunters bar in Truro, and not too many people had heard of it. A cosy little group of us turned up, meeting for the first time (the beginning of many great friendships!) and enjoyed a delicious high tea with sandwiches, cakes, and cups of coffee.

Of course, Bone China’s popularity grew and grew over the next couple of years due to its 1940s/50s vintage theme, quirky décor, and a front of house team dressed to match. Just recently due to their growth, they’ve taken over a much grander premises on Castle Street and expanded into something spectacular!

The building is large and beautiful, with the wooden floors, high ceilings and chandeliers matching perfectly with Bone China’s theming. They couldn’t have picked a better spot, and of course they’ve decorated every inch of it with odds and ends and mismatched vintage furnishings to boot. Everywhere you look there’s something interesting to be found!

I met my dad and his fiancé here for lunch the other day, excited to see the new premises and try their extensive menu of salads, light lunches and tapas feasts! And of course I had to try one of their cocktails too – they’re famous for them. A raspberry and mint fizz looked just the ticket.

We were sat upstairs, where there’s also a lounge room (for chilling with a drink!) and a small meeting/event space too which I think will need to be a future spot for a Cornish Creative meetup for sure.

They have a variety of different offers and special choices on their menu throughout the week, such as Wine & Mussel Wednesdays (£12pp) and Date Night Thursdays (£40pp) and lots more ‘happy hours’ with the cocktails too.

Between the three of us, we ordered the vegetarian mezze platter, along with a tapas bowl of mussels and a small dish of garlic prawns. It was the perfect amount for each of us and it was absolutely delicious – I particularly would recommend the mussels; nice and big and the sauce was lovely and creamy too.

I love that when you visit Bone China, you get more than just drinks and food – you’re getting the whole experience of the 1940s; from the décor to the music and the bar, it’s all so perfectly themed and lots of fun to take photos of too. I’d definitely recommend a visit if you’re in Truro!

And remember, as well as cocktails, tapas and lunch/evening meals, they’re well known for their delicious high teas and cakes (which you can request to be gluten or dairy free too by the way) – great for a girly day out.
