I love finding new places to walk the dogs that are close by to home, and I can’t believe I’d never heard of this spot just outside of Penyrn before!
I’ve been following The Cornish Barista for a while on Instagram, and saw that they’ve set up shop with a permanent cafe at a quarry adventure site near Penryn, and knew we needed to go and check it out.
There are a couple of quarries in this area, home to adventure companies like Kernow Adventure Park, BF Adventure and Via Ferrata, that offer fun ways to climb and get active here, but I hadn’t realised there was also a nature trail to walk around here as well.
On Sunday we packed up the dogs into the car and headed over for our walk, and of course had to stop at The Cornish Barista cafe there for a latte and one of their famous Easter Egg Cheesecakes! I’d seen them sharing these on Instagram over the past few weeks and knew we had to give them a try – you can also pre-order these to pick up and take home if you fancy one; they’re doing them all in the lead up to Easter.
We decided to pop ours in the car and wait to eat it until we got home, and took the dogs for a walk around the nature trail with our coffees.
There are some spectacular views over the quarries here, and you can get a good idea of some of the fun obstacles and climbing courses they must get up to here when they’re open (currently closed due to COVID19 but opening soon!).
The nature trail takes you around the quarries and into some woodlands, and if you keep going down past the trail circuit, there are some really pretty ‘bluebell woods’ to explore as well. The bluebells weren’t quite out for us but I can imagine it would be lovely down there come the warmer weather!
The overall trail is about a mile around, so great to take the kids, but you can also do an extended loop of about 2 miles if you want to take the dogs and give them a bit longer to run around. We attempted this but got stuck at a particularly muddy part and turned around – but it’s doable if you don’t mind giving your dogs a full bath when you get home!
We headed back to the car and as I write this I’m currently sat eating the cheesecake, and oh my. It’s delicious!
Definitely worth a visit and picking one of these up for your Easter treat over the next couple of weeks.
Check out The Cornish Barista website and Instagram. To get there, follow the map to Via Ferrata Cornwall.
Thanks so much for the recommendation – I never knew there was a dog walk there either. And with coffee and cake on offer, I’ll definitely be visiting with my puppy.
