Hawaiian-Inspired Eats at Kona Falmouth
Over the last month I’ve made not one, but two trips to Kona Bar in Falmouth to try their delicious menu!
Any restaurant in Cornwall that offers something a little bit different (in this case, a Hawaiian-inspired vibe and menu), I’m there! And while I’ve never been to Hawaii, if this kind of food is anything to go off, I definitely think it needs to be going onto my travel bucket list…
Located in the heart of Events Square in the harbour town of Falmouth, my friend Liv and I walked past Kona a few weeks into summer and agreed that it looked like the new cool place to hang out in town! This area has a lively buzz about it, with lots of bars and restaurants and outdoor seating – perfect for Friday night cocktails and food.
We booked a table for a girl’s meal out and immediately fell in love with the laid-back vibe and quirky, Hawaiian decor inside!
We had to start with a couple of cocktails, and my frozen daiquiri not only looked the part, but tasted great too. They have some great options here with a combination of popular classics and themed choices too.
For starters, we shared the chicken gyozas and deep fried baby squid (yum!), and went for some curries for main course. Mine was a Malaysian Beef Rendang (the beef was really tender!) and Liv had the Sri Lankan Fish curry, which was super coconutty.
To finish off, I couldn’t NOT try their Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich after seeing them serve one to a nearby table – it was so good and not a combination I’ve ever had before. Delicious!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and ended up coming back again a week later with a group of friends – deliberately so that we could try some more of the menu. This time I chose the Kona Fried Chicken Wings (would definitely recommend!) and one of their Poke Bowls.
These look incredible, and come with a range of options from smoked teriyaki tofu, chili steak, chicken strips, monkfish, and sashimi tuna. As a huge sushi and sashimi fan, I had to go for the tuna and it was amazing! I can’t say I’ve ever had a Poke Bowl before but they’re my new fave thing. This would also make a great lunch dish if you’re passing by too.
Aloha I had lunch today at Kona Falmouth. I was very impressed with the place,the food is great and as a former resident of Maui Hawaii. I could hardly contain my emotions on quenching my thirst on a nice pint of Kona big wave beer all the way from big island. Mahalo for making a dreary day of nasty uk weather, into a nice trip out with my family. I will return for more.

You wont remember me, or my family, but 6 years ago (or so) my Daughter Kelsey struck up a great conversation with you under the Banyan Tree about your Cat paintings – especially the one call Cat House!! You explained to her the names of all the cats in the painting! We purchased a giclee and gave it to her for her new apartment at college. Since then we have purchased two other pieces of your art from the Courthouse Gallery. We were sad to hear that you had moved back to the UK and that the Art shows under the Banyan tree were no longer allowed. We get great joy from your art and I remain especially grateful for the extra kindness that you showed to our daughter on that beautiful day ! Are you still painting? Do you have any works for sale?
