British Street Food Festival 2015

British Street Food Festival 2015

As a keen street-food lover, I couldn’t miss out on the British Street Food Festival in Falmouth this August!

Overall there were 14 street food vendors – all competing to represent the South of England at the finals in London this month!

The best part of all this? In order to get punters votes, each food stand was required to offer a ‘taster portion’ of their offerings for just £3, so that food-obsessed people like me could try stuff from several stands without spending loads of money and getting full to quickly!

First up on our street-food tour was Inkie’s Smokehouse (Cornwall-based); serving smoked meats like pulled pork and BBQ brisket – yum!

The taster pot also include coleslaw and beans – and trust me when I say, that meat was tenderrrr. You can find out more about them here.

Next up on our journey was Angus and Mitchell’s Rasher stand (Cornwall-based); you may have heard of them – they have residency at MONO in Falmouth, and can be found all over the county at different events. They sell everything pig-related (literally)…

Wondering what the heck that thing is? That, my friends, is a fried pigs-tail.

As weird as it sounds, it was actually delicious; kind of like a pork ribs but without the BBQ overload. Angus & Mitchell are all about minimising food wastage and using as many parts of the pig as they can in their cooking. Find out more about them on their Facebook page.

After all the meat, we thought we’d better try something a bit different; so we went for some ‘Godess Fish Skewers’ at Seadog (Devon-based); an Asian-influenced seafood street-bar.

Unfortunately, I can’t deal with Coriander (yeah, I’m one of those weirdos), so I let N take on this one. He loved it, of course! The cod was so tender and flavoursome (even without the sauce). Find out more about Seadog here.

Last but not least, I needed my sweet fix! We headed to Sapeur (Devon-based); fresh Belgian waffles made from within a 19060s fire engine (named Sapeur).

I genuinely loved these. There were so many toppings to choose from that it took me a good 5 minutes to decide what I wanted, and damn I was proud of my decision (Hot White Chocolate & Strawberry). Unfortunately, I couldn’t find them online :( Please add website/Facebook pages to the comments if you can!

^ This is me being extremely happy with my sugary goodness.

As you can imagine, after this we were both extremely full. However, here are some of the other vendors we missed out on:

(^ I can personally vouch that Truly Crumptious (Cornwall-based) are truly amazing. Run by my dad’s friend, they sell hot crumpets with a variety of toppings, including savoury! Follow them here.)

We had a fabulous weekend, and just wished we could have fitted more in our bellies! I can’t wait until next year.
