It’s been a bit sporadic here on the blog recently, but I can tell you it’s not without good reason!
Alex and I have been ‘unofficially’ living together for the last 10 months pretty much! He has a bungalow just outside Truro and I have my house in Redruth, that is now (FINALLY) being sold. We’ve been living between the two but have now ‘officially’ moved in to the bungalow full time!
What’s super exciting is that while we’ve been living at my house for the past few months, the bungalow has been undergoing a pretty big makeover. It’s not finished yet, but it’s now a million miles from its dated 60s look. Having had half of the rooms being used as a storage facility for the holiday cottages on-site for the last however-many-years, it was in desperate need of sorting out and modernising.
I’ll be doing individual posts for each room’s makeover, but it’s just hard to describe in words what a difference has been made! The ceilings were all artex, the carpet was old, pink and stained, and the walls were covered in yellowed floral wallpaper, and Alex was only using 3 out of the 6 rooms of himself; the bedroom (which contained metres and metres of floor-to-ceiling pink 60s wardrobe suites), the bathroom, and the kitchen/diner (which had a sofa and TV in at the time too).
It all looks SO different now, and while we haven’t started work on the office room, kitchen (a big project for a couple years time!), or entrance/foyer, the other rooms are pretty much all finished and it’s feeling wonderful to have so much more space!

I think my favourite room so far has to be the bathroom, which is why I thought I’d show it off here first! It’s also one of the only rooms I actually took any ‘before’ photos of (*facepalm*), and even then it had already been gutted by the time I took these, so you don’t even have the satisfaction of seeing what the old, clunky bathroom suite looked like…fail.
Nevertheless, the new and improved bathroom is giving everyone the ‘wow’ factor! The shower was already new when I first met Alex (I believe he installed it in the early part of last year), but the rest of the room was back in the 60s. With a huge ornate corner ‘spa’ bath (that didn’t work), an old toilet and sink, and wood-effect lino floor that had gone damp and peeling after a couple of big leaks, it was top priority to have re-done.
I’m so in love with it now and it makes me smile every time I walk in! The toilet has been upgraded, the lights switched for modern spot-lights, and we now have a beautiful free-standing bathtub that has genuinely transformed me into a bath person (those who know me know I have always HATED baths, but no more!). I’ve even added a wall mount for my iPad* so we can watch Netflix from the tub!
And then, there’s my pride and joy. I didn’t realise it was possible to be so in love with a sink unit, but here I am. It’s from Tikamoon* and it’s real hardwood; perfect for our counter-top basin and tap, with plenty of storage too. I have lovingly varnished this thing about 5 times but it’s worth it because look at it *heart eyes*!
The mirror and shelves are from IKEA, and I’m loving having so much storage for everything. I had to add some greenery as well, of course, and plenty of cute baskets & wicker pots* for the finishing touches.
I’m so excited to get the finishing touches done in the other rooms and show off the rest of the house! It’s really fun having an ongoing project, but it’s also so nice to finally have some ‘perfect’ places in the house that need absolutely nothing done to them anymore.

I absolutely LOVE it!!! Wish ours was as finished as your is, won’t be long but we’re just stalled currently until we replace all of the plumbing on the back of the house!
