Why Autumn is My Favourite Season
I often think to myself ‘God, I can’t wait to move abroad to somewhere hot!’.
Don’t we all?
But when I actually stop and think about it, moving to some gloriously hot place in California or Greece would mean I’d miss out on many of the things I love about my favourite season; Autumn.
It turns out that seasons, and the changing and transition of the seasons, actually mean a lot to me. I love the smell of earth in the rain when Summer transforms into Autumn; I love the crisp mornings and frost on the grass as Autumn turns into Winter; I love the fresh grass and sense of newness as Winter turns to Spring; and I love the warm smell of suncream and sea salt at Spring becomes Summer.
But for me, Autumn holds a special place in my heart, and here’s why:

1 | LOW SUN IN THE MORNINGS
There’s something about getting up and walking the dog or going to work with the sun low in the sky that is so magical. The light and shadows it casts are beautiful, and I love the way it makes everything glisten if there was frost or rain in the night. Also it’s an incredible light for taking photos in!
2 | THE SENSE OF NEW BEGINNINGS
Autumn always marked a new year at school; a fresh start. Everything in my life has started fresh in Autumn, in fact. I moved up to Bristol and started college in Autumn, I moved to Surrey and started Uni in Autumn, and we moved into our first house in Autumn last year.
Now the start of September fills me with excitement at the thought of new, fresh starts!
3 | MY BIRTHDAY
How could I not include this on my list? My birthday is on the 19th of September, and of course that makes Autumn that extra bit special…

4 | COSINESS
As the cold starts to bite a little, it’s time to bring out the long sleeve shirts, boots, jeans and jackets. It’s time for layering, and wearing soft scarves and gloves, and wrapping yourself up in blankets while you drink a mug of hot milk and cinnamon when you get home from work.
5 | APPLES, PUMPKINS AND BLACKBERRIES
Living in the country, it was a yearly tradition that we would all go out with tubs and punnets to collect blackberries from the woods by our house and along various country lanes. We knew all the best spots of course!
We also had a large collection of apple trees in our garden, which would always be bursting with sweet little apples come September, so my mum would bake us apple and blackberry crumble, and occasionally pumpkin pie too!

6 | WALKS IN CRISP LEAVES
In the half term school holidays when I was younger, we would all travel to Dartmoor in Devon stay with my grandma, and go on lots of countryside walks with her. Although I probably moaned about going as a teen, I have great memories of exploring through the crunchy leaves by the streams near her house.
7 | HALLOWEEN & BONFIRE NIGHT
As a horror film enthusiast, Halloween is definitely one of my favourite holiday events! I love dressing up and making the effort (sometimes too much effort), and any themed decorating that can be done, I’ll do it!
Bonfire night is lots of fun too, but I mainly love it for the treacle toffee – also a family tradition!
How can you not adore all of this? I am already feeling the excitement for this incredible season!

Autumn is my favourite season too and this post has got me giddy with anticipation. For me it’s all about skirts with thick tights and boots for a walk in the leaves. Heaven!
Yes yes yes – in fact just yesterday I stocked up on a whole bunch of new tights from Tesco and a couple of skirts in the Boohoo sale :P x
Excited to see your new blog design…

Hope you like it Lily! x
I am looking forward to the autumn fashion and crisp leaves. I know that in reality I couldn’t cope living in a hot country!
Me too – it’s a nice thought but I really think I’d miss it! x
I adore Autumn, and your post perfectly summed up every reason why. <3 There is something so special about this season, and I really wish it wasn't so fleeting.

Ahh yes that is the only sad part about Autumn :( It really doesn’t last long enough! x
