Spring Sunshine at Trevaunance Cove, St. Agnes
St. Agnes is one of my closest towns, and yet I rarely ever visit.
I’m not sure why! It could be to do with its tiny streets and annoying one-way system, or perhaps because I’d completely forgotten how beautiful it is on the coast there.
We spent a lot of our childhood at Chapel Porth beach, which is the other side of St. Agnes around the headland from Trevaunance Cove, and we went for hikes up St. Agnes beacon many on a Easter/Christmas day (much to my teenage annoyance). But for some reason I’d really only been to Trevaunance (St. Agnes’ closest and ‘main’ beach) once in my life age 14, when my friend and I spent the whole afternoon sunbathing on the rocks during a July heatwave.
N and I visited a couple of Winters ago, but the tide was high and we nearly got blown away by icy wind so there wasn’t much to say for that trip.
This weekend, however, we finally caught a glimpse of sunshine here in Cornwall (after a ridiculously foggy week…) and I decided it was time to explore the area a little more.
After a quick walk along the beach, we headed towards the West cliffs to the coast path for some incredible views over cove and rock stacks out towards Perranporth.
There are some truly epic houses on this side of the cliffs, by the way. I mean yes they probably get quite wind-swept but damn, it’s worth it for that view!
And of course the fact that you’re just a few metres from the beach, ready to go swimming or surfing whenever you please. Oh and being right by one of the most stunning coastal paths in country…
I’ve actually never adventured to this section of coast path before. The furthest East I’ve been on the North coast is the walk from Porthtowan to Chapel Porth, and from Chapel Porth to St. Agnes Head… but never connected the dots to this cove.
I’d love to walk from here to Perranporth some day too! There are apparently loads of interesting caves and stacks along the way there.
I brought my new GoPro Hero5 with me too to test out it out for the first time! We discovered St Agnes and Trevaunance Cove a couple of years ago, quite by accident. Seriously, we’d never heard of it. We were just looking for somewhere a bit less touristy than Perranporth (the beach is fantastic, but the town not so much) and St Agnes was the next place on the map that looked big enough to have coffee (several coffee places, as it turned out).
I loved Trevaunance Cove. It’s like a little private beach, but with all the facilities of a bigger beach, and it’s got all the essential ‘Cornish’ rocks and cliffs. There’s a nice café – Genki – on the walk down the lane, and you’ve got the Driftwood Spars at one end and the Tap House at the other for beer and food.
We walked the coast path to Chapel Porth and then back inland. As you say, it is beautiful (with bonus tin mine at Wheal Coates). We’re back there again later this year so might walk up to Perranporth this time.
There’s some serious housing on the cliffs above the Cove. Last year there were a couple for sale for a few million pounds. Sadly we didn’t win the lottery, so we couldn’t move in.
Woah didn’t realise they’d been for sale recently – that’s pretty incredible! But I’m sure it’s worth it haha. Yes it’s a beautiful little village and I love that it’s such a small cove but with plenty of eating/drinking choices. And of course Wheal Coates is just the most stunning area!

Years ago we stayed in beautiful b&b, pre air bnb, right on Trevanance Cove Cliffs. It was exquisite. Can’t find it now. Was it turned in to a private home? Did it fall into the sea? Itwouldhave been late 90,s help we want to go back the view was exquisite right on the cliff looking over the cove.
