6 Things That Make My Week Better

6 Things That Make My Week Better

Sometimes even the smallest things can end up improving your whole week!

The end of Winter and beginning of Spring seem the be the busiest times of year for most people I know – I guess people are super motivated the buy stuff/hire people/book things ready for the fresh start of the new year. Which is great, but as I said in my post about being busy last week, it’s no fun when it sweeps you off your feet and makes all your weeks blend into one big nightmare month.

I’ve been trying out some little things each week to see if it helps improve my mood and motivation, and I’ve found a few that have been working in making each week feel more positive…

1. Make a delicious breakfast every morning

This one I learnt from Olivia. When she first told me that she made pancakes every single morning I thought she was crazy, but I totally get it now. Yes it seems ‘extravagant’ (as N likes to tell me each morning!) to spend time making pancakes or porridge every day, BUT it gives you so much motivation to get up in the morning.

2. Buy fresh flowers at the weekend

Yeah yeah, it’s such a ‘blogger’ thing to do but I don’t care, it makes me happy to see live plants looking pretty in my house. Obviously I’d love to casually stroll down to the local florist or flower market and purchase a big fancy bouquet each week, but a Tesco £2 bunch will do just fine too!

3. Stretching & yoga before bed

In all honesty I just like doing this because if all else in the day goes to shit, at least you can feel just a little bit productive that you managed to fit in something that is good for your mind, body and soul at the end of the day.

Plus I have serious goals to become more flexible and finally be able to touch my toes by the end of the year. Please grow, tendons, please!

4. Re-organising my work week for less stress

I have now started doing a teeny-little-bit of work on a Sunday afternoon/evening to make Monday less stressful. I know this doesn’t sound like a positive improvement to some, but for me it has been good for ensuring I’m prepared and not fearing Mondays like I was starting to! By getting through a few emails on a Sunday, I can enjoy my Monday morning and ease into the week at my own pace.

5. Writing in a journal for 2 minutes before bed

Oh man I never thought I’d be a journal gal, and I’m still not really… however I have created a routine that works nicely for me. For 2 minutes before bed I go through the below 5 questions to reminisce about my day… and yeah it’s kind of like the ‘Five Minute Journal’, but why spend £18 quid on a book with the same five questions written on every page?

Also I have changed the question to suit what I want to focus on (inspired a lot by Caroline from Made Vibrant’s ‘Recipe for a Vibrant Day’!):

  • What are you grateful for today?
  • What made today good?
  • What would make tomorrow even better?
  • What have you learned today?
  • What have you achieved today?

6. Reading a book instead of a screen as much as possible

So this year I set myself the goal of reading 12 books in 12 months. It seems like a pathetic amount but this is coming from the girl who in previous years has read a grand total of zero. So far I’ve over-achieved and have read 5 already! I’m really enjoying spending less time looking at a screen and more time taking in written words too. Below are some I’ve been loving:
